He's always depressed, like an unhappy marine engineer on a leaky ship.
He has to bang on the pipes, test people's morality, no one appreciates it, and the kingdom he rules is full of finks and squealers and liars.
He's got a bad job, even worse than checkout clerk at the supermarket.

Yes, he would have chronic depression because he knows that ultimately he will lose the battle with God and be eternally damned to the fiery pit. Thats why he wants to decieve as many as possible.
