to be around in the 21st? Is it because we care more of our survival and that such instinct overrides whatever emotional bottleneck we have slowly created and learn to cooperate and live in peace, albeit temporary, until such threat subsides? Then what afterwards?
Restart the cycle hatred all over again? Are we damn stupid or what?

A couple of things come to mind:
1. We basically have poor long-term memories when it comes to the things you would think would matter and cause us to give a crap, and
2. We are mostly, with the exception of the mentally unstable, unbelievably self-centered as a human race (I am speaking in general terms here please) and we have this unfleeting sense of wanting the world to be "safe" so we can continue on, oblivious to the problems that surround us, and try to focus on only the here and now and what matters only to the individual hedonistic need to be entertained by our superficial but satisfying existences. But then again, maybe I'm wrong....

The Messenger [Muhammad] believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the [people] men of faith. Each one [of them] believes in Allah, His angels, His books, and His Messengers. To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety. T.Q. Sura 5, The Table Spread, verse 48.
Say Ye: 'We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord; We make no difference between one and another of them and we bow to Allah in adherence and submission. and nearest among them in love to the Believers wilt thou find those who say 'We are Christians' T.Q., Sura 5, The Table Spread, verse 82.
Let there be no compulsion in religion, Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that never breaks. T.Q., Sura 2, The Cow, verse 256.
