The New testament was completed in the 1rst century A.D John was the last finishing his around 90A.D when he was probably close to 90 himself.Guys like Papias,Clement and others sat at the feet of John and others learning. As they wrote letters and stuff as they got older they quoted from every book of the Bible, But they never used passages from Thomas,The Gospel of Judas,or Barnabas, etc etc. Why? because they were non existant or if they were the early church fathers knew they were not authentic and ignored them. Finally they had a few councils and said "We need to get together and once and for all decide which are to be in and out.Because England was so far from Italy and Italy so far from Jerusalem, they didn't want to be teaching wrongly.Have some dude go from Alexandria to Constantanople and say"Hey,pretty cool were studying the book of II Macabees at our church" and the other guy go "Hey,that ain't a real book!"
Well, later scholars throughout hte world have found different Bibles from !rst century to the 400sAD and guess what, they all agree.Later the Catholics added some books to spite the protestants. But it should be 66 books.39 Old Testament ,27 New Testament books. The Bible is amazing, you have 66 books written over a 2000 year period,by 47 different authors,on 3 different continents all saying the same thing about God,most of the writers never knew each other too cool.

The Holy Bible has a strict cannon. Ever see all the idiots posting "the Bible has been changed!" ? This is the reason why the Bible has never been changed or added to after Revelation. For something to have been accepted as "cannonical" they had to......
A. Been written by an apostle or had known apostallic support
B. Not contradicted the Gospel
C. Written early
These are the reasons that you can trust the Bible and reject the rest because it has never changed and the message it preaches is that which the apostles and God intended to be; the testimony of Jesus Christ. The others you mention dont come from Christian sources and teach something completely different from the Gospels.
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! -Galatians 1:8

Most "christians" in my opinion are totally unaware of the books you mention.
The book of Judas was only "recently" discovered and translated and has not been widely distributed.
The gospel of mary is incomplete and very hard to read with full understanding.
but...
The Gospel of Thomas says..
Jesus said, "Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all. [And after they have reigned they will rest.]"
And The gospel of truth says..
Forgetfulness did not exist with the Father, although it existed because of him. What exists in him is knowledge, which was revealed so that forgetfulness might be destroyed and that they might know the Father, Since forgetfulness existed because they did not know the Father, if they then come to know the Father, from that moment on forgetfulness will cease to exist.
Most churches exist not to teach the word, but to advance their own agenda.
2 Peter 2
1. But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
So, to answer your question, it is up to the INDIVIDUAL to study the word of GOD and educate himself.

These books were written 300 years after the synoptic gospels. They were not written by the actual Thomas, Judas, or Mary. That's why they were not accepted as part of the Bible.

These writings were not accepted by the first century church..
You know, the ones who actually knew Jesus.........Some were created after, The Agnostics, have been trying to thwart the truth from the beginning.. That is really why they are not accepted throughout the church.

They dont even agree with eachother let alone the other Gospel accounts so they are not part of the Holy Bible. If they were then you skeptics would REALLY have some "contradictions" to whine about.

Since these books have all been found to not be what they claim to be, and clearly do not belong as part of the BOOK OF TRUTH. Then we will not be held accountable for the lies and misleadings in them, just like the Quran, the Book of Mormon, and all other books outside of the Bible.

The Holy Spirit guided the church when it decided which books were divinely inspired, and which weren`t.
