It means...as far as I know...look at the results of a person's actions, good? bad? Make wise decisions about associating with them based on it.

It means we know a person by the results and quality of their actions, speech, and thoughts, just as we know what kind of tree a tree is by the type of fruit it bears.
What you should look for depends on what you consider important. I would imagine that while there are many thing on which people disagree, such as sexual orientation, there are other, bigger things on which people can usually get together. However, the main thing is you! What do you consider important? What are the qualities that indicate to you that a person is living a good life? Some of the things to consider might include, for me, at least:
--Does this person sow discord and anger among other people, or does he or she work for peace and help people with their problems?
--Does this person place the needs of other above or at least on par with his or her own needs, or is it always "Me, me, me!" for him or her?
--Does this person make an effort to treat everyone with equal respect and dignity, or does he or she discriminate or judge others harshly?
--Does this person try to be kind, even in extremely difficult situations, or does he or she take the low road and resort to being cruel and petty?
Those are just some of the things that I look for when I am deciding what I think about a person. You have to decide what qualities in a human make you think they are living a good life, and then look for those.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if a person is on the level or not. In these cases you should discern whether a person's actions bear good fruit (results). The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, and self-control. If a person does not have these things in their life, then they are not bearing good fruit.

A person's quality can be judged by the things they do and say. If they're bitter and angry, they will spread dissent and hatred. If they are loving and caring, they will spread joy and concern for others. You sure wouldn't want to pick the fruit from a tree that produces rotten apples. They'll make you sick.
As far as what to look for...that's do hard to describe. All I can say is that you will know it when your heart sees it. Intuition is a beautiful gift. I hope it serves you well.
Peace

It means that you shall know the value of a person by the good they put forth, much like a tree that bears fruit. So we should look for a do-gooder, someone who helps others as Jesus encouraged us to do. He said "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

His fruits are his deeds. What he does, how he reacts, what he gives, says, and appreciates. Bad fruit is sin, good fruit is good deeds. If someone always does bad things or are a mean person thier fruit is bad. If someone helps others and does things that are good for all his fruit is good.

It means that what happens to a person is the exact result of their actions. If a person is dishonest on their taxes, for example, they'll get caught and go to jail. Their incarceration would be proof of their wrong acts.
Also, it refers to the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)

Don said it in a nutshell, someone's fruits are his/her good qualities. For example: honesty, compassion, integrity, fortitude, patience, etc. As for someone's offspring, when the Bible talks about offspring, it uses the word "seed."
