My job had given everyone a turkey for Thanksgiving, and I decided to oven-roast my first turkey with no experience or cookbooks. I had washed it, thoroughly, but it still seemed heavy as I was putting it in the pan to season it. Come to find out, the white cloth bag with the turkey neck, gibblets, liver & other odd pieces was still in the cavity! After taking the bag out and re-washing the turkey, I decided to put stuffing in there instead. What have YOU done?

I made stuffed peppers with the wrong rice.

I used brown instead of minute rice and when done, they were just these horrible crunchy bites ....

Even worse, I'd decided to make a story of it for the web!

Sigh, I posted it anyways....

you can read it ... here http://www.calarts.edu/%7Edk/pepper/pepper.html

Believe it or not, I actually screwed up JELLO!!! I love to cook. I can cook things like Coq Au Vin or Pad Thai from memory, which makes my failure with simple, so easy a child can make it blindfolded Jello even funnier. I was trying to impress my family by making a fancy two-toned Jello molded dessert so I was using 1/2 packets of each flavor, meaning the amount of water had to be adjusted. I was in a hurry so I was using the "ice cube" speedy method instead of all boiling water. Welllll...the top layer wound up with too little water and could be used to play handball it was so hard & bouncy and the bottom layer had too much water and squoooshed out off the plate and onto the table like something from a horror movie. Needless to say, there was no dessert that night.......

It was in my early 20s and maybe only the second or third time I was making homemade chicken soup. After the soup was done boiling, I removed the chicken and carrots with tongs and put them on a platter. Then, I put the collander in the sink, and poured the broth in it to strain. Except, I had forgotten to put another pot under the collander, and my lovely chicken broth went down the drain! I was HORRIFIED!!! (I always put the collander in the sink to strain the noodles, which I cook separately, but I don't know where my head was that day, when I did it with the broth!)

I've done that 3 x's and you think I would learn from the first time. How about I made a whole tray of lasagna for company only for it to tip off the counter and splatter all over the place... Not only was I furious and wanted to kick my self but that was the main course and I only had the meatballs and sausage with salad to serve. Embarrassing.....

I like to create new things.I have a huge supply of new ideas for the kitchen, including a new idea for rouladin. My plan was to make a Neptune filling for it instead of the traditional stuffing. In my haste ,and due to the fact I never write things down{I file everything in my head},I forgot half the ingredients for my Neptune. While it tasted ok,it was not right by any stretch.

Hee-hee, I'm going to tell on my husband here, and not myself! :D
One Christmas morning, he decided to make breakfast for us and his sister and her kids, and he was making scrambled eggs. He usually uses interesting spices. So he had the eggs in the pan, and was also frying up some vegies with them, and he had put in some hot spices like cumin, chili powder, and coriander . . . and then he went to add milk, but he put in the eggnog instead. And he never noticed! He didn't notice that it was thicker than milk, he didn't smell the cinnamon. He was the only one who could eat those eggs. It was truly terrible.
