Clearly I think both pro and anti illegals can agree that something HAS to be done about the immigration problem if for no reason other than security.
I think a wall would really be the best start to the problem, I asked a question several months ago as to why Mexico would really oppose a wall (aside from the potential insult) and there was no pro illegal response.
SO, let's start with the wall, that doesn't affect those who are here now, it strengthens our security, and while yes, there would be digging etc. it would keep many from dying in the desert so the Mexican governemtn would no longer need to hand out pamphlets on how to enter the US to keep their citizens from dying.
Does anyone have an intelligent reason why the wall is a bad idea (and yes, I know $, but we are already paying)? And this is about the Southern Border right now, call me racist all you want, but that is the biggest problem right now.
Any other ideas on how to start dealing with the situation?

To make sure it is understood. The wall I am suggesting is not teaching anyone discrimination against anyone. It is merely a physical boundary (a better one) to mark off an area already recognized by the world.

Alberto - the issue of security is one of a pro active stance. Now that it is harder to come in this country by plane, borders are the next issue and with all the tunnels already in place, wanting a wall CAN BE for security purposes too.
SO, why NOT the wall, if you agree there is a problem? And what solutions do you offer?
El Indio - if you can't figure out the difference between the Berlin wall and a border wall, I worry about our educational system.

Reaper, American cities, counties, and individual states have begun to formulate some very effective solutions to the situation in their own defense against this invading horde from our Southern border. No matter what solution is adopted, there will be financial burden to go along with it, You know the old saying about "death and taxes". America as a nation, has become disillusioned with the "poor, hard working" Immigrant. The lie is out, it cannot be retracted. When Americans feel like they have been made fools of, they react with anger, and an angry America is one of the worst things imaginable. Even worse than yourself. Americans may be hated worldwide, we accept that, but being disrespected like what was done on May 1st is totally unacceptable by the American public. Now, the ONLYacceptable solution is a hardline, secure, Southern border. Ask any American. The reason that Americans have taken such a hard line is the unapologetic attitude of the people who have disrespected our nation as a whole.
These people should understand, better than most, the price of being disrespectful. They claim to be a proud people, why must they direct their disrespectful attitude toward the country that they benefit from the most? Deportation is one solution in leiu of an apology to America, justified punishment for the disrespect of a proud America.
This isnt about right or wrong anymore, its become a respect thing, Who will blink first? Not Americans. Who will throw the first punch? America will. These people need to remember that there is one single man that will be hunted for the rest of his life, never to be forgotten by this nation, even in death he will be reviled by America. America is a good friend to many, an even better enemy to many more. Let them decide which America they want to greet them.

The only problem I have with building the wall is what is going to make it more special from the wall we already have? And how would that keep many from dying in the dessert?Aside from scientists finding a way to place the whole U.S in an invisible dome I doubt the wall will make a difference.People will still climb over, under and around it,and they still will do whatever it takes to get across,be it over mountains, water or whatever.I think the best solution which I have heard is to stop the demand of job offers that many businesses offer, either that or somehow making it so that the american dollar has the same value as the mexican peso thus making it worthless in many peoples eyes. One of the most appealing reasons for coming to the U.S is that one american dollar equals like 100 pesos in mexico, wich is also why many american tourists find mexico to be a cheaper vacationing spot than hawaii.I'll give you an answer on how to do it as soon as I brush up on my economics so will get back to you on that one.

Good question. Im pro-illegal, and Ill tell you part of my point of view about the wall. I do agree theres a problem on immigrants wanting to come here to the United States. If theres a problem, then theres need to be a solution. I disagree with you that is for security reasons though. What terrorist suspects have been caught crossing the border illegally? None. Not even 1. So for people to say that its about security, is just an excuse to whatever biased opinion they might have. Wy dont people that believe that is for security reasons (no insult to you) dont go to Iraq border to secure the border there? American casualties are dying everyday because of the flow of insurgents coming in through other neighboring countries. Including Mexican nationals are there in Iraq fighting for this country. But you dont see that in the news do you? You only see people running across the border , or being arrested, etc. etc. I do agree on some of your points, however people here always insult Mexicans and Mexico regardless of what the reality is. They say all Mexicns are criminals, Mexico is a corrupt country (like if the U.S. is not, every country is) etc. etc. Anyways no matter how much I type about this issue, Im not going to change anyones mind around here or make them any less racist (not you) about Mexicans in general. So, whatever.

The wall works. San Diego has one and it does work. 60 Minutes (for whatever reason) tried to show that didn't work. I suppose that's my liberal media at work. At any rate, the wall is a good idea, and if we want it to work it could.
We got to such great lengths to stop drug trafficking that I can't understand why we wouldn't see a wall as one more way to accomplish our drug enforcement goals.
Mexico is a corrupt society from top to bottom and it isn't going to change for the conceivable future. So we need to be serious about defending our border.
And go ahead and create a guest worker plan for the 12 million illegals already here. Then they can help us build the wall.

Huge expense in money and manpower, with little indication that it would be effective. It's not a smart gamble, and there are more cost effective options.
{EDIT} OK.
Better solution #1. Take 50 thousand troops (1/3 of what's in Iraq) and deploy them along the border. That's roughly one squad per quarter mile. No additional expense since they're already on the payroll, with much easier logistical support. It's good desert training for the units, and we be using our troops for national defense, not nation builiding.
Better solution #2. Change Congressional laws to authorize local law enforcement to hold illegal immigrants who commit other crimes until federal authorities can collect them. In other words, stop the "catch and release" policy. That also allows local police to participate in border enforcement, and stops much of the incentive if more people are captured and deported.
Better solution #3. Change the focus of immigration agencies by allowing them to concentrate just on new violations. Implement a broad plea bargain, for anyone currently in the US who has been here at least one year, has a job and has broken no other laws. Plead guilty to a misdemeanor, pay a fine, and become a legal temporary resident alien, under probation. Follow normal immigration laws, and deport for any later criminal violation. That frees up about 70% of immigration resources to focus on prevening future violations.
That's three solutions, each addressing a different part of the problem. Want more.

I like the wall idea. It could provide jobs for Americans and open up construction jobs and opportunities for big business. A smart company could market that towards Americans and make billions, instead of exploiting illegal labor. Build a wall, opportunities can be made.

A wall would not be a bad idea.
We should build a wall and have only a few openings, (check points) so the only way to get in would be through these checkpoints. I am not a racist and am hispanic myself.
But we have to draw the line somewhere...

i think a wall is the only way if they respected any of our laws let alone our border there would be no need ,but i don't see that happening so its going to have to be done ,and the costs will pay for itself in future savings on illegals not being here !

I think a wall would be a good starting point. They also need to seal or collapse the existing tunnels. At least it would give us in the border states a chance.
