It is just mineral oil with some perfume added.
Mineral oil is one of the things left over in the production of gasoline from crude oil. It goes by many different names.
You do not want to eat or drink it as it has strong laxative properties. And it is a poor choice for a laxative as it might contain some carcenogenic compounds from the oil refining.
When I raised my two kids I never used it. Just because it is called "baby oil" doesn't mean you should use it on babies. Might as well call it earthworm oil as far as I care.

Ha ha! Good joke.
;-D According to Oprah, mineral oil based baby oils are dangerous!
Try a natural baby oil! For example: Natural Baby Oil is said to be "soothing and protecting. This Natural Baby Oil soothes and protects tender baby skin. It's made of a blend of natural vegetable oils combined for their various skin protecting qualities. The wheat germ oil is high in Vitamin E."

Mineral oil or liquid petrolatum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It is a chemically inert, transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. Mineral oil is available in light and heavy grades, and can often be found in drug stores.

It's wax extracted from babies' ears, melted and strained and used as a lubricant. It is a natural product from babies; that's why it doesn't irritate their skin. Their allergic response is not provoked by it, because their antibodies recognize it as 'self'.
