Seriously I have noticed this have you? It doesn't even matter what the question or answer is. Some one will decide to dislike it. I try not to thumbs down anyone as their opinion is theirs and they have a right to it.

Now I have to laugh harder as apparently some found this question and your answers offensive or bad. I gave everyone a thumbs up for their opinions. Disagreeing doesn't make our opinions bad but different.

If you notice 11 out of 34 did not receive a thumbs down. Odd I think someone missed a few.

Absolutely. Though my answers come from no faith and no belief, I get the same thing. No one likes an atheistic answer... unless it's another atheist.

It's just how people are. There's no way everyone will be pleased with what is said. I proposed an alternative to abortions the other day, and of course there were some people who loved the idea, and others who hated it. I know that has nothing to do with R+S, but it has parallels. There's just no pleasing everyone.
At this point in time I would like to say I have not recieved any thumbs downs, that is because I am feared by the Y!A community. :P
^This will trigger a thumbs down.

I hear ya!! My whole take on opinions in general is that they ought to be backed by logical thought and factual support whenever possible. It's completely possible for someone to be a Christian and think logically. People who write someone off right away simply because they believe differently are the ones who are bigoted and close-minded. When I give thumbs down to people, it's because they made erroneous accusations and/or assumptions. I'm just as likely to thumb down a fellow Christian as I am a non-Christian if they don't support their opinion. Maybe it's the teacher in me that looks at it that way. I think it has more to do with hearing my husband constantly harp the same thing. :)

I have answered the question "What is your religion?" several times and received thumbs downs. I laugh. How can stating your religious beliefs when asked be a bad answer? I also tend to go back and give everyone a thumbs up (if they gave an answer that wasn't a smart retort). My way of trying to even the score.

I get a lot of thumbs down for my opinions, but I have also noticed the atheists/agnostics do, too. It's sometimes annoying, but also thumbs-down is a way to take away credibility from a dangerous answer like "Oh, there's no hell, silly!" I don't mind thumbs-up/thumbs-down on the answers, but I really hate when I see thumbs-down on serious questions of someone from any faith. Megami of Nekro asked a serious question about the seeming contradiction between God's love and His justice, and someone was giving her thumbs-down for it. Really crazy.
Personally, I'm not too heavy on the passing out of the thumbs-down, but I will use them if I think the answer is dangerous, offensive or condescending. Not JUST because I don't agree. And I've taken more than my fair share (watch me get them on this answer).

Giving a negative response is a quick two points. I didn't check the Bible reference given before me; but maybe it was "don't cast your pearls before swine." I am glad you don't think you are being persecuted as some do.
Now something to ponder. King David coming from a battle was put down by a nobody. One of his officers wanted to kill the man for bad mouthing the king. David said no. Perhaps, David said, this man was sent by God for a test.
Last, but not least. This age is growing more negative, cynical and devoid of any answers. It is becoming a global village of small gangs. It is not uncommon these days for one person to kill another over the mildest disagreement.
Kevin Sites, a reporter, noted a few days ago that of 19 "hot spots" (euphemism for killing zones) he has gone to in the past year -- all but one have gotten worse.
He is just counting the places where he has been. Many other places are boiling under the surface. People are boiling everywhere and that includes this site too.
Cheer up, it may get worse.

Depending upon my answer, I actually hope I get a thumbs down. I honestly hope my answer pissed someone off. Show's they're thinking (or at least offended).
Sometimes, I do think people just give a thumbs down for the reason that they see 'atheist' in my answer. Shows that they're just closed-minded.
Of course, I do feel somewhat validated when I get a lot of thumbs up, but in the end... it doesn't really matter, does it?

I give a thumbs down to all those people who are (when giving answers) aggresive to other people's reliegon. That's not nice. If u ask a question and there are some not very good remarks about reliegons, I try to answer it so that the other person is convinced and those kinds of questions (sometimes :) I give a thumbs up. Unless u ask, how will u know??
But it is really not good if people start being racist and bashing other reliegons. That's not the way it should be.

Actually, I've been called "atheist" by christians and "christian" by atheists ;-)
But the few times when I've expressed my beliefs in detail, I've been treated with a great deal of respect and tolerance (I'll provide links if you wish).
I use thumbs down when I get answers that obviously intend to offend (like "what a dumb question") and when I get really long answers that are not relevant to my questions.
Bear in mind a thumbs down for an answer hides the answer, which can help me focus on the answers that are relevant and helpful.
I've never thumbed down one of your answers, Debra. I'm always grateful for your insights.

Yeah, I've noticed it, too.
I give a thumbs down if someone is hateful or abusive toward others. Or if they give someone looking for help really hurtful advice.

There are always going to be immature people who give the thumbs down if they disagree with the statement. I usually get thumbs up but I do get a few thumbs down. I know I answered well if I get the thumbs down!
