My cat ,being the sneaky glutton that he is, scarfed a chicken wing from my husbands plate yesterday. Before i could get to him he swallowed the bone.

This happened 24hours ago. He doesnt show any signs of discomfort or pain but he hasnt passed it yet.

Will it pass normally? Should I take him in(which I would if he showed any signs of pain, of course)? Will it break down?

My cats have eaten some strange things that I found in their poop later and that is the only reason I knew they ate it. Fortunately these were not sharp objects. I don't think it will break down. Cat's do eat small mama ls. Twenty four hours seems long enough but I would keep a close eye on her/his behavior. A very close eye. ANY sign of discomfort or not using the litter box and I would rush to the vet. Even if it means the emergency vet.

Your cat will probably be fine. You just need to be observant in the next few days. Cooked chicken wings are not good to give to cats as the bones can splinter and cause damage inside. This is not inevitable however. The cat's digestive system should take care of the bone. It won't come out intact.

RAW chicken wings, chopped into two or three pieces would be a great treat for your cat.

If you have trouble remembering, raw or cooked? Just picture a cat eating a mouse -- you won't see him holding it over a fire in the woods. Cats eat raw bone all the time.

It depends on whether the cat chewed up the bone.. was the bone small... large.. No, it will not break down in the cat's intestional system. It might pass and if not in a day or so.. you might take it to the vet for an x-ray..

I'd take the cat to the vet as the bone could get stuck in his gut, causing a blockage or internal bleeding. They will be able to x-ray him and suggest what the best course of action is.

I knew a guy down in Miami, with a lion. A real, honest to goodness male lion. The lion was young, about a year old, but was huge, I mean great Dane huge. He thawed and fed him whole chickens. He chowed on them and never seemed to have any problems. Until someone reported my friend for having a wild animal inside the county and that was the end of that. My point is, I live in a rural part of the country now and we have feral cats running around. They eat birds and squirrels and mice and rats and anything they can kill and eat. What makes these cats any different then yours?

chicken bones are not healthy for animals. They have a weird way of breaking, and can puncture the inside of the animal. It should pass, but if not, be sure to take him to the vet.

Ooooh, that happened to my dog. The bones did not break down, and it was an uncomfortable passing. I think that my dad had to help him along by pulling the stool out (it was sticking out halfway, and seemed to stop). Poor kittie. I'd take him to the vet.

You might want to take your cat to the vet. Chicken bones tend to splinter, and I don't think you want that happening to your cat's insides.

Most likely he will be fine, the biggest concern would be that he would choke. Just watch him make sure he's using the litter box normally.

Girl, don't know that cat eat birds for a living?. Cats have eaten smaller birds, I think that you are getting them mixed with a dog.
