You know, it is nothing to be ashamed of, and a lot of movie stars have accents when they are being interviewed. However, when they get in front of the camera, they lose it. There is a way of doing this, but they probably have a voice coach or something. I think if you can tape record the radio, or TV, and slow down the words, and just listen over and over. Then try it yourself and tape record your voice and see how it sounds. It takes practice, but you need something to pattern after, just realize that it is like acting, you are going to become someone else. I think the Spanish accents are nice, so don't worry about it. If you want to lose it, then work on it. Also, you could take a course in Jr. College to learn to speak English perfect, but the accent will take work. Good luck. A friend could also help you, and tell you how you sound, who speaks English perfectly.

ELOCUTION LESSONS. In order for you to learn to speak English requires learning the correct position of the tongue and how the mouth forms various consonants and vowels. If you wish to speak English, then you might seek the help of someone from the south of England, where "proper" English is spoken.
If you wish to speak American English without an accent, you might try seeking assistance by way of an instructor or tapes that deal in North American Standard Dialect (NASD). This is what news commentators must use when broadcasting the news.
Just an opinion, a touch of your accent is nothing to be ashamed of, and might invite dialogue from someone that you didn't think understood you in the first place.
Have a great day

If your English is not perfect you get hold of a good tutor to help you for this.
Your speaking Accent mainly depend on your mother tongue and the place where you stay. Even if a person talk correct English we can easily tell from his accent to which place he belongs and and his mother tongue.
To over come this the main think required is practise. You should move and converse with people who talk really good English. It will take substantial time, say about an year or even more, to be perfect.

Just let yerself be drawn in, (and almost HYPNOTISED) by the New York accent whenever ya speak to the locals and start to mimic the way they pronounce different words, and the intonation that they use in their accent, and ya should gain a New York twang soon enough, but it will only be a twang at your age, I'm afraid, cöck- you've left it too late to gain the full accent. I've got the binary opposite of your problem- I moved from my native London, (England), up to Lincoln, (ALSO in England), WELL over two years ago now, and for the record, I'M tryin' desperately NOT to lose MY accent! Let's hope we'll BOTH be successful in our quests, eh? Peace and love! Be lucky! :)

Seriously, you can't! I have a distinctive accent even in my native language which identifies what part of my country I'm from. I can fool some people that my native language is English, but an observant person will always blow my cover. Many people find an accent to be interesting and perhaps a little exotic so I wouldn't worry about it.

Most people who learn a new language after a certain age always speak that language with an accent, so you shouldn't be embarrassed. It's normal.
If you feel that people don't understand you, there are things you can do to make your speech more understandable, however.
I recommend the course called "Pronunciation for Success". It's designed for self-study and it takes about a month. You can buy it online at www.eslvideos.com.

Practice makes perfect. I struggled with the same problem, but now I have embraced my accent. Now, that doesn't mean I stopped trying to better my English, it just means that I know it's normal for me to have an accent.
Surround yourself with people who speak nothing but English, that way you will force yourself to pronounce words you otherwise wouldn't if you didn't have to. And when you make mistakes(like saying "engish really PERFECT", instead of " perfect English"), these people will correct you.
Don't be embarrassed, that's how you will better your English. Don't be afraid to ask for the meaning of words you don't understand. Remember; if you don't allow yourself to make mistakes, how are you going to correct them?
p.s. accents are sexy to some guys!!

Believe it or not, everyone has an accent and speaks differently than the person next to them. And besides, with slang, no one really speaks true English anymore. Accents also depend on where you live and in your case, your heritage. You should be proud to be bilingual (i wish i was) there isn't really anything to change it or improve it. Hope I helped! ^-^
