my son is 2 years old , he's 3 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 44.3 pounds...most people say he is very big for his age but what about his weight? he don't eat junk food, he loves fruit and vegies but would eat noodles every day if you let him...there has been times though that he has had 4 eggs and 2 toasts for breakfast....is he average or is he becoming overweight? maybe i shouldn't have any concerns. i am just curious.

You never mentioned how big he was at birth or if his height/weight have always been in the top percentile. My daughter was just shy if 10lbs and she was two and a half weeks early. She just turned two and is in the 103% for height/weight and 85% for head. Her older sister was the same and now at the age of 5 is already 48" tall and weighs 43 lbs. My son just turned 8 and is already 5' tall.

Some children start off larger than others - not anything to worry about unless your Pedi says otherwise.

As for eating 4 eggs and two slices of toast, you do not mention if this is an every day occurance. Keep in mind, that at the age of two, most children eat out of survival: they eat when they are hungry. My little one will on pick at food for a day or two and then eat more than a full grown adult on other days. I talked to her pedi and was told that this is normal for some toddlers. As long as she was taking liquids and peeing at least 3-4 times a day, she was not worried about her eating habits. (And on the same note, as long as she was not eating four course meals every day it was ok).

If you really worry that your vhild may be "abnormal", I would tell you to check with your pedi....make sure he does not have a metabolic issue, is not diabetic or have any hormonal/thyriod issues.

Other than that - he's just a big boy. Turst me, he will grow out of it soon enought (no pun intended)

Sorry the MedicGVD attacked you in the response, you are serious about your question and that was not called for. This guy is a flight medic, I would not want him helping me. Everyone should put a stop to the rude people. Send him a response to his rude message. OK enough of the soap box.

Since he does not eat a lot of Junk food, you should have him eat veggies between meal and reduce the amount of food at each meal. This is a great time to teach the child not to eat prior to bedtime, a habit that can cause problems in the future. Also, make sure he gets plenty of exercise. To be honest, if you think your son may have a problem in the future, starting a walking routine at a young age will teach lifelong habits. I wish you the best in the future! It is good that you are aware of any potential situations.

You're very specific about his height and weight, but not about his age...There's a very long distance between just turned 2 and almost 3, but looking at a growth chart below, it looks like at age 3 he would be at the top of the chart (but still on it) to be 40 inches tall and weigh 40 lbs.

Kids don't just grown evenly from day to day, though. They get ready for a growth spurt and put on a little pudge. Then they shoot up and get skinnier!

Make sure your son gets a variety of foods, no sweets, and then make sure he gets plenty of exercise. Let him push the stroller and take lots of walks.

The problem I forsee is people expecting more of him because he looks so big that they'll think he's older. Try to help him on that, expecially if he's in preschool or daycare, that people don't expect more than he can handle. Especially if he's putting all his energy into growing, he may not be as adept as some other kids because he's like a gawky teenager trying to learn how to manage his long legs!

Hate to say it... but he is definitly a "fat" child... not necessarily OBESE. He sounds overweight to me, especially considering how much he is eating for breakfast.... thats an awful lot of calories. Is it possible that he has diabetis? My cousin is a big child (now 6) and he was recently diagnosed with diabetis. You should talk to a doctor. Or perhaps he is just going to be a big guy when he grows up (meaning tall)

It depends on his growth chart and where he stands on the chart.

But one thing I can tell you , is if his normal eating habit is like the example you gave , it is too much for a 2 year old .
I think it is good Idea that you consult with his doctos as well as a nutrition expert to tell you what you should give him at this age and how much ,as it seems you have problem with that.

about his height , he should be around 1.5 of his birth height.

You should diffinitly have hime checked by doctor.

I think it all depends, maybe he seems big to you but if doctor has not said anything to you try not to worry about to much...maybe its just in his jeans. I always think my little girl ( she 2 1/2 years old ) is small, she's about 20 to 25 lbs and and 3 feet tall the doc says its prolly cuz she gonna be like her mom ( me ) I'm only 4' 10" and 90 lbs.

hope that helps.

My son is 2 1/2 and wheighs almost 30 lbs. I don't know what the average weight is. I see a lot of toddlers bigger than he is as far as weight goes. You should talk to the doctor about it.

I've been told my daughter was big for her age. she's about 3 feet and 30 lbs. You son seems to be a bit too big for his age to me, but I'm not a doctor and I also know that every child is different. He may be completely normal.

Four eggs is too much for anyone let alone a child. If you are concerned about his eating habits or his weight you need to consult his doctor.
