Because it works. When your batteries are low just pressing the button may not trigger the remote due to resistance in the pads. Pressing harder will cause more of the pad to make contact thus less resistance and triggers the remote to signal.

Strange but true. Using a good contact cleaner on your battery contacts will also help your batteries work better when they are low.

if you just rotate the batteries. roll them back an forth in the controller a couple of times they will work a little longer.
