To DRDAVE:
Let me digress from the original question. You totally know S.H.I.T about why there was a Hindu Muslim conflict in India.
This happened mostly during the time of Partition. The British Colonial powers did not encourage any kind of close affinity between Hindus and Muslims. They followed the principle of divide and rule.
Before the partition India and Pakistan used to be one large country. Once the idea of partitioning the country came into being, the Hindus who were living in the areas of the Country that was to eventually become Pakistan got very scared (because of the predominance of Muslims there) and thought that their life and property were in grave danger. Moreover they faced the arduous task of getting out of that part of the land and to areas of the country where there was a predominance of Hindu people.
The Muslim people found themselves in same situation. They had to leave to go to those parts of the country where there was a predominance of Muslims. So the need to undertake this danger and hardship filled journey made both these communities highly apprehensive of each others motives. There was actually very little required to ignite bloody riots in various parts of the country wherever there were Hindu and Muslim communities in close proximity to each other. There were also the British Colonial powers who wanted to hold on to India-Pakistan as long as possible. Like any democracy growing up both these nations had birthing pains and this was the way it had to happen.
This may even be compared to the bloody Civil War that took place between the Southern and the Northern states in USA. But then again, like all White people you do not have the capacity to look at your own short and messed up history, before you start pointing fingers at other peoples and passing judgment on them.
When you decry the conflict between Hindus and Muslims you forget the ever present but hidden conflict between the White and the Afro American people in this country. You conveniently forget the Martin Luther Kings, Rodney Kings, Abner Luimas etc When you point you finger at some one you have to remember that three of your finger points back at you. So first get your facts correct before you start trying to judge others.
Spiritualseeker :
The " Sai Baba of Shirdi " did indeed have quite an effect on creating a close affinity between Muslims and Hindis in India. Nobody knew the parents, birth or birthplace of Sai Baba. Many inquiries were made, many questions were put to Baba and others regarding these details, but no convincing answer or information have yet been obtained. He was a simple soul and it was his interaction between Muslims and Hindus that made him great. His constant advice to all was to this effect. God is the only One Almighty Master of All souls and never discriminates while showering His Love on the souls who are all equals before Him. He loves every soul irrespective of his/her vices or virtues. "Rama (the God of the Hindus) and Rahim " (the God of the Mohammedans) are one and the same; there is not the slightest difference between them; then why should their devotees quarrel among themselves?
