For me, it was the first time I got married. Then I repeated it five times. LOL. Had to scratch and claw my way back to heaven.

When the first caveman experienced pain.

The idea of punishment. Think about it. Cause and effect. I'm sure it was a thing that taught us well. That's how come we have such big brains.

Early man's philosophy was mostly unwritten, but I'm sure that the Bible was not the first to describe the afterlife. I think it was one of the Greek philosophers that did that. As well, the Egyptians had a river they had to cross. Also, the oriental traditions were written down before the bible and they also mention an after life journey and a river.

The idea of hell was not born until well after Christianity was established. The Bible mentions "sheol" or death, not hell as the reward for those without God's favor. It has been interpreted as hell. Hell is not a Hebrew word.

The modern concept of Hell as a place of eternal suffering for sinners appears nowhere in the Bible, in the Hebrew Scriptures or Christian Scriptures. (That's Old and New Testament for those of you not familiar with those terms...). Jehova's Witnesses, because they interpret the bible quite literally, do not believe in hell. Remember, the bible was written in Hebrew and in Greek. If you look for references to the English word "hell" in the bible, you will simply find one particular translator's opinion of the meaning of a Hebrew or Greek word. When dealing with major concepts like hell you really need to check the meaning and context of the original language. Check out this great web site:

That explains it much better than I can.

it was invented after a certain group of Angels led by Lucifer made a play for the throne of Heaven. God retained the throne and caste them into a fiery prison called Hell where he was to remain for eternity.

There are references to it in Psalms. But I believe it has yet to be created given the wording of of the following....

The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. -Revelation 20:13

WHY:

Matthew 25:41, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"

FIRST MENTION:

Deuteronomy 32:22, "For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains."

Long before history began. Lucifer gave in to pride and was cast into hell, a place prepared by God just for he and his followers who turned against God.
