When I was living in VA, someone vandalized my car, which was only about 6 months ago, and I had filed a police report at the time, so it should be on record. I just recently found out for certain who did it and I was wondering what the statute of limitations was on something like that.

I would provide this new information to the police. Unfortunately auto-theft and vandalism are such problems in metro areas, that it is nearly impossible to catch the perpetrators. I don't know for certain that they will make any arrests, perhaps contacting an attorney (depending on the severity of the vandalism) may be a better way to go. Good luck.

I believe the statute of limitations on all crimes other than murder is 7yrs.But in a case like vandalism I believe it is best to have that person documented so charges can be filed and a warant issued so that person can be picked up.Or if they have police contact later on they can be arrested for the vandalism case. But if that isnt done and you see them in the future and try to have them arrested it probably wont happen. You need a warant on them.

It depends on the state, but you are well within the time most states have for limitations on at the very least a misdemeanor. You should recontact the department you filed the report with and let them know.

It depends on the state.

You could contact the police again, to update your original complaint.
