By argue I mean debate or discuss, although certainly there are enough that do carry it to an extreme.

Neither, I just like to argue.

This is a good place to test out new lines of reasoning, since there is a pretty good demographic spread within the "opposition". There are theists who are intelligent and well-educated, and understand that most ancient religious texts are probably not literally accurate, but can still be good moral teachings. And at the other end of the spectrum, there's the people who believe dinosaur bones are part of an elaborate hoax.

It takes all kinds, and I can argue with all of them here.

I want understanding of my views... I know I can't convert anyone because anyone who pops into these questions isn't looking to be converted but is looking to either annoy, chastise, inform or debate.

So... I ask questions so I can understand and I try very hard to get my points across. If I end up making someone think... GREAT! If not, I just hope I can educate someone or help someone understand where I'm coming from.

Not trying to convert, just trying to get the other person to see things the way you see them. Some people are not very open-minded and no matter how much you make sense or have a point they will never see your side of things. It has been my experience that if you have to argue with someone regarding the WORD then its not worth it. At that point they are only in defense mode so they are not really listening to you.

I already understand my viewpoint.
I do not try to convert - that is not my job. My job is to share the love of Christ. It's the job of the Holy Spirit to convert.
If you mean making the person understand my viewpoint, then I would have to say that I love a good debate - and that I try to have a good understanding of THEIR viewpoint so that I am able to present a well thought out answer to their questions or to be able to counter an argument in a logical but loving way.

I hope that when you say "argue" you mean to debate in a friendly, humane manner.

But to answer your question I guess I would have to say a little bit of both. I certainly do not push my beliefs on them but simply leave it out on the table for them to do with it what they want. Accept it or reject it.

It is stupid and a bit time-wasting to try and convert by arguing. I just want people to understand my views and remove all these misonceptions about Islam

What I want is acknowledgement. I typically only argue when someone comes at me with an attitude that their beleifs are superior to my own. In which case - all I want is an understanding that people are entitled to believe their own way.

I will also question others beleifs so that I have a deeper understanding - it is a good way to learn.

I never argue my beliefs. I discuss them if someone wants to listen. As a christian, it is my hope that I can be a light to someone and help them to accept the Lord Jesus as their savior. I don't do this with arguments, I don't believe disrepecting what they believe is the way to go about converting anyone. I simply share what I believe and let them think about it. God Bless You.

The reason that I answer these questions: I want to support other people who share my beliefs, and help people understand the religion that I believe in. There are a lot of false statements made about the church I belong to, and I try to help clear that up. But I realize that there are people who aren't going to listen, no matter what anybody says. So I don't let them upset me.
