How about painting the walls white with thin, little red stripes and then have navy or beige carpet. Then you could bring out the red with red and white throw pillows and then some vases with same color of flowers in them! But if the furniture has other colors in it, then try something with those colors!

If this is for a child's room or a contemporary style home - go bold for lot's of punch!! It adds lots of energy to the room in a positive way...
If this is for a themed room - pick out a complimentary color for the walls - but go neutral on the carpet - it's the most permanent item in the room. You can add additional colors to the theme with throw pillows, artwork or window treatments.

If your furniture is solid blue then try a textured look, sponging etc. If your furniture is for example a plaid color, then go with a solid, off-white, beige color. Your room needs a litle variety but also your eyes need time to rest, so don't go over board with the prints and patterns.

Dark tan walls and a light tan with speckles for the carpet. The reason I said speckles for the carpet is that dirt does not show as much on it. That would look nice.

Can't go wrong with a cream or gray color for either the paint or carpet. Go with more nuetral colors since the main color focus will be the furniture.

It really depends on what you want to do with your room. You can get colors that are complimentary, or colors that add contrast. I suggest that you take a look at the color wheel and figure out what colors and moods you'd like to implement. There are many websites that offer information on room design and the color wheel. Below are a couple for you to get started. Good luck!
