Ok well, you know how when you go to the store, and if you like see a purse, then look inside and there's that tissue paper stuff? And you can also find it in other new stuff, they put it in their to make it look new you know? Well, my sister kept getting new purses ALL the time. And right after she got one she would want another. My suspicions grew. i went to her room and asked her why this is, i said "you have like 4 perfectly good purses!!" and she said "they're cool" and then i said "ok whatev" and shes been so weird. the next night she went to the mall (shes 17) gets a new purse, and then comes home. my parents suspicions grow too. that night, we were going to eat dinner, and so i went upstairs to tell my sis dinner was ready. i opened her door, and there were those tissue papers from all the purses scattered on the floor. one was in her mouth, and the ones on the floor were chewed and soggy. i asked and she said "I DONT KNOW OKAY?" we ate dinner in silence. why is she doing this?

oh wow. I know you're very concerned, however, you should not confront your parents about this situations, at least not yet. When you and your sister are alone, sit and talk with her about her obsession. There has to be a reason why she is doing this. If she shuts her mouth about this situation, then it is time to tell your parents. This is nothing serious though, so don't stress so much over it. Good Luck.

Why hasn't any of the adults/parents just asked this troubled woman what was really going on? When people purchase more of the SAME items, they are trying to compensate for something - meaning that the person is trying to balance an imbalance (emotionally). Sometimes this is quite normal because it makes the person feel better. They get the high of having something new and beautiful which makes them feel beautiful as well. But they only get off that ride when the money runs out on the debt piles up. Since she is 17 years old she's probably doing things at school to stay popular and feels bad afterwards, so her guilt and efforts to hide the evidence drive her to chew on the paper. I don't think she's got mental issues but there is something going on within her and it is deep. Someone who really cares about her needs to get off their butt and start talking with her before she becomes a shopaholic. The root her problem is emotional, it's no different than over-eating but someone needs to spend some time with her and help her through the emotional roller coaster she's on.

she either has a compulsive disorder where mentally she just has to do the same thing over and over again for no apparent reason or ive heard of people eating paper on an impulse because of a drug problem. sounds more like a compulsive disorder to me tho. it would be wise to tell your parents and insist on having her checked out by a doctor, either medical or psychological doc.
best of blessings.

Well, if you havent told your parents, you should. And more than likely, your sis needs to be seen by the family doctor, just to get a check up on to what may be going on. It doesnt mean she has mental problems- but something is going on that she needs osme help with. good luck.

First, I worked in a paper mill and sis should not be putting any paper products in her mouth. Secondly, if this behavior continues you need to tell your parents. This is obsessive compulsive disorder.

lol there must be a chemical in the paper that appeals to her mind and creates a dependency. that's really strange, just catch her doing it again and make her stop (eating paper really isn't all that good for you) and call the doctor. (medical, not mental)

even perfectly normal people get strange obsessions. your sister's has grown to an unmanageable point. Talk to her, be her friend and get her to talk to an adult.
Make sure she understands that this is not something BAD, but just something which needs attention before it gets worse.
