That's "conscience".
By the way, that's a lovely & entertaining theory about an internal alarm implanted by your deity, but kiddo... I've gotta tell ya... your bedtime stories have nothing to do with reality.

You are right about the "internal alarm" thing to a point! And I agree with one of the answers that said that it is instilled by society!
GOD did not make religion that difficult for us nor did he give us that many core rules to live by (10 is not a lot) - yet it is difficult to keep up and live by that ten. God made us - he knows we are not perfect - it is for us to try to live a middle road for even a good thing can become a bad thing if taken to the extreme!! And yes, we do know to a point when we do something wrong - however, because most of us do not following GOD's "real" way of life he has prescribed for us - we do get numb as each of us think we are right these days! Mankind is actually lost right now - I don't think any one of us knows what is right and wrong anymore - it is easily mixed in with the gray areas and we are easily lost - however, I do think that we can still determine right from wrong when it comes to the 10 major rules GOD gave mankind to live by - so in this instance your conscious should eat at you ALOT if you overstep one of these rules! That is GOD way of keeping you on track I guess!
However, society has also instilled lots of "sinful conscious" things in our being which is sometimes confused with GOD's and we need to separate what GOD wants us to do and what is cultural, traditional and societal. And sometimes these are harder to get over unfortunately!

Well, a conscience mind is curated by religion, or by some sort of doctrine, whether it be what a persons parents teach them, or what a Church Elder taught them.
The conscience mind has nothing to do with God, in my opinion, but with Man, and Society, both of which teach us what is and isn't acceptable. And after enough training, our mind comes to a point where the automatic reaction to behaviour which we have learned is wrong is to make us sick, or dizzy, or just to know what we are doing is worng on some level.
Mine bothers me alot when i know what I'm doing is wrong- i get physically ill. So, I can never lie to myself, even if I can lie to the world, because I will always be aware of my actions no matter what I do.

Well if you do the right thing in all things you won't have that problem to concern yourself with. I don't focus on hell and damnation nor worry about a lot of stupid things...I don't go to church either. Am I a sinner? I think not Do I worry about my soul? No I don't. I have a kinship with all of life and treat others like i'd liked to be treated...even better. Why worry about all this stuff? There are real problems out there in the world and we can't seem to solve any of them. Now that is something to concern yourself with. We should all be screaming about the people who suffered from Katrina...they are OUR people and everyday I see no improvements. That to me is SIN.

I feel terrible, I always try to dispense sage advice to my friends when they're in trouble, so its hard for me to actively choose to be a hypocrite. After some serious religious experiences, I can almost say I'm incapable of raising a weapon in anger at an other living thing. Its barbaric and I nearly get sick. I'm glad my concience is so strong.

My conscious bothers me whenever I sin. It eats at me until I pray for forgiveness. It feels to me like that every time I sin I add one more slash with the whip or that I am hammering the nails into his hands and his feet. I beg for forgiveness.
