Between the more enlightened times of the ancient Greeks and the later Renaissance, these were some pretty dark years in the advancement of learning and science. Like you approximately point out, the Church had the power and resisted any knowledge or enlightenment that challenged its doctrine.
Kitty, it had everything to do with Christianity. The Roman Catholic Church of the time was outright evil in its treatment of people. And some folks wonder why so many people shriek at the mere mention of theocracy!!

People then are like the people today. They did not want to know the truth about God and so the Christians had to worship in hiding or be killed. It was also a time of conquering and taking over lands. Power had mans eyes blind to all except what they wanted. Food, wine, women, land, and riches. Men's minds were small and worshiped Kings and Queens and soothsayers instead of the only true God.
I say that made God hurt and angry so he cast a grey fog over the world, which is why it is called the Dark Ages.
No matter what YOU try to explain, you will never convince a TRUE child of God that there is no God.
God have mercy on your soul. You need prayer.

No need to explain it to me I understand. It was a time where people believed in myth and fairytales.. Kinda like now. But it was so bad that if you even attempted to try anything that the bible did not agree with you would be stoned and burned at the stake.
Lots of killings in the name of god and wars that still have not ended.
And yes people was forced into the darkness to keep control and power in the hands of the few.. Again a lot like now. We as in Americans are the most high tech in the world but we the people are still 50 years or more behind the Gov.
It will always be like that.

No silly, it was because religion became corrupt, and disallowed the people to read the Bible for themselves. Notice, once people started realizing that they could read and understand the Bible for themselves we ended up with the reformation, and man's knowledge increased greatly, and still is. Not just theologically, but in other ways as well.

Dark ages have nothing to do with christianity , it was a time when people had plagues and deseases and poverty ,, and they were not inventing and discovering as they did later on during the renaissance period

If you can explain this why ask the question?
You ask a question if you don't know the answer...that's how it works.
