Excellent question. I suppose if a gun were to my head, like the FOX news team, I might consider converting to Islam.

The one page essay by Dr. Walid Phares, "Islamic concept of Al-Taqiyah to infiltrate and destroy kafir countries" explains how a convert will become a terrorist:
http://www.fisiusa.org/fisi_News_items/news109.htm

Phares states, "It [taqiyah] is done to prevent the new converts from seeing the real face of Islam; at least until their faith or mental conditioning is strong enough to make them turn against their own country and people."

Not all Muslims blow up things, yet "jihad in the cause of Allah" "jihad fee sybil Allah" is "fard ayn" "compulsory duty" for all Muslims. Why? There are rules from the Quran for combattive jihad. Read this:

What does the tape from Gadahn mean? Does anyone realize that Muslims are supposed to "dawa" "invite others to Islam" before jihad?

According to al-Mawardi an 11th Century Shafi'i jurist:

The mushrikun [infidels] of Dar al-Harb (the arena of battle) are of two types: First, those whom the call of Islam has reached, but they have refused it and have taken up arms.… Second, those whom the invitation to Islam has not reached, although such persons are few nowadays since Allah has made manifest the call of his Messenger…it is forbidden to…begin an attack before explaining the invitation to Islam to them, informing them of the miracles of the Prophet and making plain the proofs so as to encourage acceptance on their part; if they still refuse to accept after this, war is waged against them and they are treated as those whom the call has reached…

In the Hidayah, vol. II. p. 140 (Hanafi school):
It is not lawful to make war upon any people who have never before been called to the faith, without previously requiring them to embrace it, because the Prophet so instructed his commanders, directing them to call the infidels to the faith, and also because the people will hence perceive that they are attacked for the sake of religion, and not for the sake of taking their property, or making slaves of their children, and on this consideration it is possible that they may be induced to agree to the call, in order to save themselves from the troubles of war… If the infidels, upon receiving the call, neither consent to it nor agree to pay capitation tax, it is then incumbent on the Muslims to call upon God for assistance, and to make war upon them, because God is the assistant of those who serve Him, and the destroyer of His enemies, the infidels, and it is necessary to implore His aid upon every occasion; the Prophet, moreover, commands us so to do."

Islam is insidious, it encroaches on a culture slowly and deliberately. You may be interested to read a document which discusses the degrees of Islam in great detail (50+ pages) -- "From dawa to jihad - the various threats from radical Islam to the democratic legal order":

It's so interesting, this current take. I've just been trying to better understand Islam and what is written in the Koran. Clearly, there is *a lot* written about how the Jews and Christians (that is, "the people of the Scriptures") are wrong and thus evil, but if they will convert then they will be forgiven by Allah. Like with the Fox news crew who were kidnapped in Gaza, there are options for non-muslims in a muslim society--convert, pay a tax in an act of submission, or have violence done (i.e., be exiled or executed). It is also written apparently that you must kill the infidel who intrudes upon you, strike terror in their hearts (that specifically seems to be the translation). This invitation to convert is scary to me because it seems like the kind of thing al-qaeda would do before something big, to give the impression to the world that the west 'was given a chance' and to mollify some extreme islamist sects who sincerely criticize bin laden and his mates for not attempting conversion before imposing death. Al-Qaeda can say to such critics, hey, we tried to save their souls by converting them, but they refused to be saved that way, so we did what we had to and murdered them, and really feel they covered their koranic bases I'm afraid...

I wonder how many of these heck no's do not support the war in Iraq? If none of us Americans want to convert to Islam (remember Islam is a forced religion or get the edge of a sward) then we must be willing to pay the price as freedom is not free and sometimes blood must be shed to preserve what our forefathers have worked so hard to give us. I am not against someone wanting to convert to Islam as that is what freedom is all about. I am against forced conversion and that is not freedom. America and freedom, its blood runs deep in the family.

i already converted to islam, and i'm glad of it too. i don't know why you're automatically accusing me of being a terrorist though...whatever. What did i do to you? Are you claiming to know more about my religion than i do?

From the Qur'an: There is no compulsion in religion. You can only accept islam on your own free will. No one can force it on anyone, and shouldn't try to.

I was watching a special on osama bin ladin and it said that in the koran they have to ask the person who they plan to attack to convert to islam before they can attack them. I saw this a while ago and as soon as i saw the news i started to think.

No. I'm fine with my own beliefs. But if I had the chance, I'd like to gun a few terrorists down.

Convert to Islam? Ha, ha, ha, ah,ha, ah, ah.
I have little enough to do with my own religion thanks...
Also, me, .take orders and what not from a man? ...be serious. Women have no rights there and it took forever for us to get them here.

Become one of them? No, they won't impose their beliefs on me in any way, shape or form. ..not yesterday, today or tomorrow.

They want us on their side so they can ultimately control us. Read books by Dr. Mark Gabriel (His Christian name) Islam and Terrorism. He was a professor who choose to QUESTION, NOT LEAVE ISLAM...for MERELY QUESTIONING HE wound up in ice water in a rat infested tank over night, The rats had not been fed for days and DID NOT EAT HIM THANKS TO GOD's
protection. He turned over his life to Christ over time realizing there is freedom in Him he never found in Islam. It si for freedom Christ has set us free!!! FYI His own father upon hearing he Questioned some Islamic teachings, tried to KILL HIM with a gun!
So, NOPE! I would never convert and trade my freedom in Christ. I would rather die!
