Well, it sounds to me that you want to be an activist, but only if you get paid. True? Yes, most of the people you see caring signs in front of abortion clinics and the White House are getting paid. Yes, there are also some people that don't get paid. But these people are locals that might find some time in their busy life to do so. The people you see, for example, PETA, have the resources to hire people to picket. If you want, you can legally ask for the financial disclosure of PETA. You would be shocked at the amount of money that gets donated to them. After all the fat cats take their share for managing PETA, the rest goes to hire activists and advertising. How many people do you know that have a full time job, kids, etc., can afford to run to Washington every time PETA wants to picket the Capital? And do you think the founders and managers of PETA care about the animals? Hell no. They formed PETA to line there pockets. Most people leave college looking for work. And, how to make money the easiest way possible. Start a group. Receive donations. Advertise to spread the word. Solicit other people for your cause. Receive more money, to advertise more, to get more money. Sounds pretty cool, huh?

You can try the Cindy Sheehan ( sp) approach.

Find a reason to hurl barbs at a prominent person and the media will pick it up like a bee to honey. From then on you will be sort after by a lot of weird people to champion their cause: you will be an activist.

An employee working for government or non-government organization may be active in a non-profit organization advocating a particular cause. This activist is not paid for doing it. There is also an activist who works for non-profit organization advocating a a cause that is near to one's heart so he or she gets a salary.

Some activists and lobbyists get paid. Many more are volunteers and do not. If you truly believe in your cause(s), then money should not be an issue.

I congratulate you on your interests and encourage you to get involved.

If you join an interest group you could get paid, but most do not. Many activists are at a local level and have other jobs.

your basically labeled as a lobbyist
if u want to make a living out of it then find out how many elections u can get involved in and help electing a certain candidate to represent you. people in power recognize faces and not emails or bullshit bulletin you have to be able to forecast who the new biggest thing is going to be.

Most are not paid. Some are paid very little. I'd recommend doing something else you like, because sometimes the ones best able to affect change are people who have become great at something, and then have the clout/money/connections/respect to make something good happen.
