I do it: 1 cup rice, slightly more than 2 cups water. a table spoon of butter and salt to taste. Add a beef or chicken boullion cube or two if you like for more flavor.
To jazz it up: I first saute half a minced onion then add a few shakes of paprika then add it to the boiling water before you add the rice. I love it better this way but it IS more of a hassle. that much rice/water feeds about 4-5 people. 20 minutes on low.. covered with lid (preferably the kind that has a small hole in it.)then keep rechecking until all the water is gone, but not so long that you hear the sizzle of burning. Good luck. Oh,

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as "american" white rice. I like to cook my rice in a rice steamer. It's so quick and easy. I put two parts rice to three parts water, a bit of salt, and let it cook in the steamer. The steamer turns off when the rice is perfectly done. Is this how you make American White Rice??

2 cups of water brought to a boil with a little salt and about a tablespoon of butter. Add a cup of rice and simmer with lid on for 20 minutes. Better yet get a rice steamer they work fantastic and no watching. That is what I use.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil add 1 or2 tablespoons of butter
After water boils add 1 cup of rice, reduce heat to simmer or low
cover the pot with a tight fitting lid and allow to simmer for about 25 to 30 minutes. You may also want to add salt, about 1 teaspoon

Minute Rice is good, just boil some water, pour in a cup of rice, strain out the water after letting it simmer for a few minutes, then add a pat of butter to it.

I think you heat some oil, fry the grains (use long grain) in it, add a liquid (either stock or water) and salt and bring to boil. Cover until cooked (probably about 20 minutes). When done fluff and serve with a pat of butter.
