I am an RN, so I will answer this question professionally. Eye opening during a comatose state may be a spontaneous reaction. However; there are cases noted that comatose patients can hear most everything and opening their eyes is a reaction to stimuli. In Akinetic Mutism, a neuro condition where damage is done to dopaminergic pathways, the eyes may spontaneously open and visually track movement. Hope this helps.

I have not been in a coma. Being in a coma and coming out is not like television. Sometimes one opens the eyes due to reflex but are still in the coma. It's a person by person basis.
