Why is it that some Christians will call Athiests sinners who are going to hell. Some Athiests will call Christians ignorant? And so on and so forth. What are we accomplishing?
I'm a Christian, I have Athiest friends, Christian friends, and Agnostic friends. We get along just fine and respect eachother's beliefs.
In the words of John Lennon, Give peace a chance.

In response to Phil S, i do think it makes sense to teach children about the history of Christianity. It along with evolution is just concidered a theory, is it not? I wish my Christian school I attended would have taught evolution. I know it now, and no.. i don't believe in it. But I do think that its important and people should know about it.
However, Christianity can never be taught in schools. Separation of church and state. So, Phil S. has nothing to worry about. :)

I don't care what someone else believes or doesn't believe.
The arguing serves no purpose other than to bolster the ego.

A large part of following the Christian faith is to "make disciples of the nations". If you aren't out preaching about Jesus to starving people or at least the kids at your school, then you're not doing your duty as a Christian.
Atheists get annoyed by this. Most name calling done by the secular side is provoked by one Christian or another trying to shove the word of God down someone's throat because "the Bible told them so". To an Atheist, they're just babbling nonsense.
The responsibility lies on both ends.
Christians: stop thinking that you're making the world a better place by brainwashing others. If they want to learn about God, they will come to you. We are all aware of the fact that there is a church on every street corner. Be humble about your faith and spirituality. I know what the Bible says, you'll get more bees with honey than with vinegar.
Atheists: you know where you stand. You may think they're ignorant, but the the same need that created God in the first place keeps their faith alive - no amount of science and facts can shake a person with deep faith. Ignore their propaganda. In the end, it really won't matter any way. According to them, you'll go to hell. And according to you, neither one of you won't know the difference.

Good for you! I feel the same way. I'm a Christian and I work with a guy who isn't a believer (I'm not sure if he's athiest or agnostic), but he's one of the kindest, most gentlemanly men I know. I also work with some people who are Christians, but treat people badly who don't share their beliefs. I'm friends with both, and I do my "preaching" by how I live my life, with love and acceptance of all people. If the non-believer ever opens up his heart and wants to hear Christ's message, who do you think he'll be more likely to listen to?

This lack of acceptance of others beliefs will utlimately cause more harm than it's worth. You let your friends listen to whatever kind of music they want without pickin on them for it, because everyone is meant to be different. But for some reason, in many cases, when it comes to religion... this kind of thing doesn't happen. But I think it might have something to do with having others beliefs pushed onto us. There are many laws that are based on Christianity (at least in Australia), or some other kind of religion. Once we can learn to accept that not everyone is going to agree with what we do or don't believe in, then the world will be a much better place.

I agree with what you are saying.
However, I feel bad when I see how some Christians are becoming disheartened and upset about being attacked for being Christian.
So I posted the question about how Christ was harrassed by Satan in much the same way.
It should be a comfort to Christians to realize that Christ experienced the same thing. And perhaps Atheists will realize that this is why Christians are so offended by it.
We should be able to ask questions about religion without insulting one another or harrassing people by making snotty comments when somebody is trying to have a reasonable discussion.

While that would be ideal, humans seem to naturally create groups. We want to be part of a group that is different, and better, than another. Religions are groups that deal with just about the strongest belief, so it makes sense there's so much conflict. Plus, you have some religions teaching its members that it is their holy duty from God to "save" or convert others.
Some areas of the US care more than others. I've had more strangers try to talk to me about religion in the 3 months I've lived in GA than the 27 years I spent in OH and PA. In fact, I just got handed a pamphlet tonight about how some group was the chosen group of "God" and would be in power by 9.12.06 when the nuclear war hit.

By arguing and fighting with one another is accomplishing nothing.I to have all kinds of friends.I actually enjoy listening to different beliefs, customs, etc. Who are we to judge anyway? Why not just enjoy the friendships we have? What each person does or believe in their own homes is their business.

Amen, quite frankly, who are we to decide who is going to hell. I reserve that job for my creator. It was and is and always has been his job to begin with. I am a Christian but I don't believe that it is a title and gives me the right to start telling people who is and isn't a sinner and who does and doesn't get to heaven. I just chose to love everyone the way the Lord wanted it. We have to learn to get along if we want to live in paradise period. We are going to be surprised when we see who really made it and who didn't.

First of all It's the Christians fault, Atheists call them ignorant. Christians, with their firm belief that everyone is a sinner and only if you belong to the church, believe in christ that you'll be save from the fires of hell at the jugdement day, call Atheist sinners who will go to hell.

Well in real life I'm always having debates on the subject(I'm an atheist) but they are intelligent debates and are meant to make us better understand. I have turned many people to agnostics.

Karli,
Good for you.
I feel the same.
I have friends of all
religions, and what
separates us from the
rest is we respect each
other and do not try to
impose our ideas on others.
What works for you will not
necessarily work for others,
so unless you are asked,
keep your religion to yourself.
