Excellent question. I suppose if a gun were to my head, like the FOX news team, I might consider converting to Islam.

The one page essay by Dr. Walid Phares, "Islamic concept of Al-Taqiyah to infiltrate and destroy kafir countries" explains how a convert will become a terrorist:
http://www.fisiusa.org/fisi_News_items/news109.htm

Phares states, "It [taqiyah] is done to prevent the new converts from seeing the real face of Islam; at least until their faith or mental conditioning is strong enough to make them turn against their own country and people."

Not all Muslims blow up things, yet "jihad in the cause of Allah" "jihad fee sybil Allah" is "fard ayn" "compulsory duty" for all Muslims. Why? There are rules from the Quran for combattive jihad. Read this:
http://www.notislam.com/id8.html

What does the tape from Gadahn mean? Does anyone realize that Muslims are supposed to "dawa" "invite others to Islam" before jihad?

According to al-Mawardi an 11th Century Shafi'i jurist:

The mushrikun [infidels] of Dar al-Harb (the arena of battle) are of two types: First, those whom the call of Islam has reached, but they have refused it and have taken up arms.… Second, those whom the invitation to Islam has not reached, although such persons are few nowadays since Allah has made manifest the call of his Messenger…it is forbidden to…begin an attack before explaining the invitation to Islam to them, informing them of the miracles of the Prophet and making plain the proofs so as to encourage acceptance on their part; if they still refuse to accept after this, war is waged against them and they are treated as those whom the call has reached…

In the Hidayah, vol. II. p. 140 (Hanafi school):
It is not lawful to make war upon any people who have never before been called to the faith, without previously requiring them to embrace it, because the Prophet so instructed his commanders, directing them to call the infidels to the faith, and also because the people will hence perceive that they are attacked for the sake of religion, and not for the sake of taking their property, or making slaves of their children, and on this consideration it is possible that they may be induced to agree to the call, in order to save themselves from the troubles of war… If the infidels, upon receiving the call, neither consent to it nor agree to pay capitation tax, it is then incumbent on the Muslims to call upon God for assistance, and to make war upon them, because God is the assistant of those who serve Him, and the destroyer of His enemies, the infidels, and it is necessary to implore His aid upon every occasion; the Prophet, moreover, commands us so to do."

You are totally correct. Islam is insidious, it encroaches on a culture slowly and deliberately. You may be interested to read a document which discusses the degrees of Islam in great detail (50+ pages) -- "From dawa to jihad - the various threats from radical Islam to the democratic legal order":

(1) I'm certain you meant "fight them" as opposed to "fight WITH them" - unless you do want to be a John Walker Lindh. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

(2) The question is spurious. Even the most fervent believers of a restored Caliphate do not believe in outright world conquest. That was never the issue. Their cause was the restoration of the past - namely, a united Islamic state in all the territories of the world that have been historically under Muslim control, from Spain to Iran, Turkey to Sudan. North America does not fit into this at all.

(3) The main contention the radicals have with the so-called "Crusade states" (NATO members, essentially) is the presence of troops throughout the Arabian peninsula in the same region as Medina and Mecca. The other main contention, is Israeli control of Jerusalem. Until all three cities are under Muslim control and the Arabian peninsula does not host American troops, they have a powerful raison d'etre for war in their minds that cannot be disregarded.

(4) American support for secula-minded Islamic states - Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey, Morocco et al - is what stirs the radicals to anger, since none of these states is a theocracy or an authentic "Islamic" state governed solely by Islamic law and Islamic jurisprudence. American support in particular for these states has prevented domestic terror movements from overthrowing these "friendly" nations and resulted in huge losses for these terror movements. The decision to strike at the "Great Satan" is an extension of an ill-conceived attempt to make the United States back off and away from its support of these allies, and support of Israel.

(5) Certainly, ending support for Israel, leaving the Middle East posthaste and giving the entire region over to the terror movements would please them mightily, but is inexcusable on humanitarian grounds, amongst other strong reasons. That does not make the current efforts at regime change and stabilizing the Middle East any more justifiable in terms of lives and funds expended, time lost, and the loss of American prestige.

(6) If you would rather fight them, go right on ahead. Bear in mind that no war is a zero-sum game with unconditional surrender an inevitable option. Either the war is taken to new levels of throughness that could prove just as destructive to America as inaction, or this current state of insurgency will last long enough for everyone's grandchildren to have a piece of it. Around 3500 Iraqi civilians die every month. That's twelve 9/11s per year, thanks to inadequate troop levels and woefully flawed conduct of this war.

Bear in mind that the United States has never fought a successful counterinsurgency on this scale, in two countries simultaneously, no less. A few more wars like this and there won't be a Treasury left. Maybe you should consider the logistics before you dream of cavalry charges.

I don't have to hook up the telephone to my gonads to know that it would hurt. Besides Islam has very little about fundamentalists. Look up Wahhabi's,the basic religion of al-Queada ,and you will be surprised by how different it is from Islam. For one thing Islam preaches respect and honour to the "people of the book"(Jews and Christians) and only pagans are to be converted by the sword. Wahhabi's teaches that anyone not a Wahhabi is a threat and should be killed. The act of suicide is forbidden by Islam. It brings shame on the person and his family. Wahahabi's faith encourges it.

relies upon on the mosque. For Eid there have been a ton who wore it and ripped it off the 2d they have been finished praying. i've got not got a project in my view with the reality that they don't placed on it in spite of the shown fact that it looked terrible the way they acted afterwards...and on EID all of us rejoice on the mosque at the same time. women human beings might placed on a great Abaya and then rip it off to honestly prance around and teach off their stuff after the prayer. it is not purely my judgment, it is what lots of them will admit too. maximum of persons ensue...and ...nicely...they think of this is a genuine thank you to fulfill somebody for marriage. a pair of circumstances on EID I observed women human beings not placed on hijab in any respect and finding on the mosque community they could o.k. be careworn. PPL can declare to be something they desire. Many Muslim women human beings I even have generic have not worn hijab at one time or yet another. when I first converted i did not placed on it each and all of the time. i'm a convert so the way ppl react is kinda weird and wonderful. If I say salaam they're suspicious...yet while an Arab did this and did not placed on hijab they're often particularly heat together with her. definite, hijab is in Christianity to boot -- only look on the nuns, the Amish etc...Jews too... "something is accessible"as they say yet i think of you're only attempting to seek for a fashion out of a prepare of Islam. i could desire to be incorrect although. maximum suitable of success to you. :)

Considering that they still kill one another anyway (Iraqis are killing a whole lot more Iraqis that they are Americans or Americans are killing them) it wouldn't matter if we did convert. Muslims are terrorists and killers. If they don't have us to kill they just resort to killing one another so there's no advantage in converting to appease them.

extremist muslims? I thought they were being exterminated. I hope so. Anyone who believes their purpose of existence is to kill me and mine needs to step up and face the consequences. Here or there. Let me know, if they want to do it here....come see me......osama

No, islam is a religion and religions spawn crazies easily. Thanks, but I'll stick to being spiritual rather than join some man-made, man-controlled organization.
