You cannot buy a puppy without a parent present if you are under 18. There are laws against selling animals to minors. Yes your parents can get rid of it.

It would not be a responsible thing to attempt without your parents approval. Because you are a minor they will have every right to get rid of the dog...they are actually legally responsible for that dog. If you really want to be around a dog... you should be able to volunteer for a shelter or rescue (many high schools require community service hours and the rescues could really use the help). Even if you were able to get a hold of a dog, how are you going to ensure that you can care for it for its whole life? With college only 4 years away most colleges wont accept pets on campus and to have your own apartment would require you to get a job while in school just to pay for rent. If you arent home in a situation like that it is not at all fair for the dog to live like that. Use this time to volunteer for a shelter, get to know the different breeds of dogs, and prepare yourself to get a dog when you are financially and situationally ready to own a dog of your own. Remember that they will count on you to care for them for approx 15 years...it would not be very thoughtful to not take this committment into heavy consideration.

You can get a puppy only if your parents are behind you 100% on it. You need to be responsible for the daily care of the pup, including, feeding, walking, cleaning up the poop and pee, bathing once a month. What about vet care? Who will be resposible for that?

Ultimately since you are a minor, your parents have the final say as to whether the dog stays or goes, but if you take respobsibilty for its care, I don't think they would make you get rid of it.

Yes, they can! Please remember there's more to it than just cost of the puppy. There is a series of at least 3 to 4 vet visits when you get the pup, the costs of shots, heart worm preventative and testing, spay or neutering, etc. And in the event the pup get sick, there is the cost of vet visits and meds. There is equipment to buy, leashes, collars, crate, stain and oder removers, it's not cheap! Good luck and maybe your parents will eventually see things your way. I sure hope they do. It takes a dog (or any pet) to make the family complete! I love animals and can't imagine living without them!! :)

Yeah your parents could get rid of your puppy if they decided to if you are underage..........sorry. Unless you and them come to agreement(signed and legalized) that they won't get rid of the pup unless you move or something that causes you not to have the pup.......kind of far stretched I know but legalized it might be of some help. If you really want a pup show your parents how responsible you can be. Tell them that you are ready to care for apup. My mom let me have my first dog at age five........though i was raised among dogs and cared for my older sisters dog when i could........ever since then i have had dogs, cats, and recently a ferret! My adise to you is to just talk with your parents to see if you can come to agreement. Keep up your grades, try not to get into any trouble.........that sort of thing...BEST OF LUCK!!!!

When I was your age I bought my first dog.......saved up my allowances and all! I bought a reg. rat terrier, from this really cool caring dog breeder. To this day I still buy from her along with the animal shelter. I suggest that you adopt though.....many dogs that need a good caring home! That way they are vaccinated and healthy. Some dog breeders vaccinate thier pups before selling them....not many do though....my breeder did and still does but you still got to continue those booster shots.....also many of those free pups don't come vaccinated either, you would have to do that as well. So thats why i suggest a shelter dog because they are up to date on thier shots and all. Best of luck to you!

If you have money, someone will be willing to sell you a puppy.

Your parents can manage the household that they pay for as they see fit. Whey you are on your own and paying your own bills, you can do whatever you want.

Some pet stores may sell you one, but it's doubtful without your parents with you, and yes, your parents can get rid the of the dog even if you pay for it.
