Yes it is okay to have bf as long as you are a girl and gf as long as you are a boy.But you must treat each other with respect. And no four play or sex until you are married.

You pose an interesting question but it would probably be easier to answer if we knew what, if any religious culture you are speaking from.

My children, one boy & one girl, both had quite a few friends of the opposite sex. My daughter who is now 35 didn't date very much during adolesents. She and her girl friends went out on weekends and the boys she knew went out on weekends. If they met up -- fine -- if not that was fine too. From what I'm told it pretty much the same way now. My son is 32 and has lots of female friends but doesn't date a lot so I have to assume what I've been told is true.

I would like to know why you asked this question? Do you live in the USA? And why just Christian people? Why not Muslim or Jewish people?

yes, boyfriends and girlfriends are generally considered to be okay as far as Christian theology goes

but the actual timing and behavior that is considered approriate is different depending on the country and culture and religions denomination and family practice

in our family, we don't approve of "dating" until 16 years old

we don't approve of having a "girl/boy friend" until you are old enough to be courting and considering marriage

we are very conservative this way

most of the good christian people I know here in the southeast part of mississippi let their children date earlier and form couples earlier

most christians still believe that having permarital sexual relations is wrong

The differences you are seeing are cultural, not religious. The definitions of Girlfriend/Boyfriend are also debatable. My son is 14 and has many girl friends. I do allow him to date (simple dates...like school dances.) I do not encourage dating behavior beyond that.

The entire "going steady" at 14 is ridiculous.

Yes it is generally allowed, but not encouraged by some. It just leads to unneccesary temptation. It definately should not be for children or anyone immature. Dating should be what comes before marriage. So basically should be between men and women and not boys and girls.

Not recommended. Teenage love affairs are usually short lived, and end usually in an immature way( suprise!). One of the couple gets hurt... Its not forbidden, but discouraged until late into high school.

Yes, boyfriends and girlfriends are allowed. It's a natural process, after all. Teaching them to behave in a clean manner is the challenge.
