It doesn't have anything to do with Biblical reasons. It is handy to use as a metaphor. Heres this life giving water flowing in from the Jordan, and the sea is dead because it takes and doesn't give.

The salt content of the Dead Sea has been measured as 5 times that of the oceans. The high salinity is the reason that very little life is found in the waters - it truly is a dead sea.

The Dead Sea is referred to as dead because of the high content of salt. Not much lives there but you can really float well. It has significant historical value but the name I don’t think is biblical. Others may help here. This is from a link ~the lowest point on earth and the largest "Natural Spa" in the world~ Hope this helps The lowest point on earth 417 meters (1,373 feet) below sea level.
The largest "Natural Spa" in the world.
A mini-universe with its own unique micro-climate.
An average of 330 full days of sunshine per year.
One-of-a-kind body of water.
The saltiest and most mineral-laden in the world.
Everybody can float in its waters.
Its thermo-mineral springs have been praised for millennia.
Famous for its mineral black mud

a bunch of good answers for a change.
Lets see Biblical reasons. The world floods left to much salt water behind and not enough oxygen behind to support much in the way of life as we know it to survive.
Sodom and Gomorrah are in a different part of the middle east. and may have be found . at least the ruins of them. Because you can stop at a figure that may have been lots wife who turned around and looked at the destruction and was turned into a pillar of salt.
The there is the several ice ages that added to the depth and salinity of the water.

It's a dead sea because it has water inlets but no outlets. The result is a continued accumulation of salts and minerals that never get flushed out.
As everyone already said, it's too salty to support life. But you can float on it without any floatation devices.

the Dead Sea is below sea level. The waters that flow into it never leave. There is so much salt that nothing much can thrive, hence the name.
It has an indirect meaning with the Bible, that water needs to flow for life to survive.

It is the cap of the largest source of oil in the world.
The salt dome under the dead sea is keeping th elid on it. So much oil that what you see coming out of the ground in Saudi Arabia is exess from the formation. Nothing really likes to grow in oil or salt for that matter. The Bible states that the wealth of Israel is in the ground...

No , it is dead because nothing can live in the concentration of salt and minerals in it. It is so far below sea level, and is loosing water very fast due to Israels irrigation, and need for water.
