Well on the internet you can play the numbers game. You put together a good enough message and you can send it to 100 people in one night. You go to a bar and you'll run into 12 females, half of them heffers. And now a days, internet dating isn't just for the antisocial, its just another gathering place (hell, most people spend more time online than going out to bars now a days) so theres not much to be scared of there either.
But I think the BEST way to meet people in general is to just go out and do activities that you like to do, things you're interested in, and naturally that will bring you in contact with people who have the same interests as you!

At a bar, you know what the person is like. On the net they will lie about everything.

Volunteer. Do something you'll enjoy, and you'll meet others that enjoy the same thing. Or take a continuing ed class in something that interests you.

Is that the only two choices, cuz I would say niether. They are both the worst next to staying at home watching TV. I guess it depends on who you want to meet.........

Bar, because you can see the person face to face in person. Internet can be so phoney.

they both are cool ways to meet people but i think meeting someone in person is better
