if you can afford it go for a plasma-if you take certain precautions you will not get screenburn with a plasma (most of the latest models incorperate anti-image sticking methods now and this goes some way to alleviating this problem). if you take care of the tv and follow the manufacturers guidelines there is no reason why you should not see 12-17 years use out of a plasma of reputable make (pioneer-sony-panasonic-lg etc). my personal opinion of dlp or any other rear-pro set is that they are not worth the outlay in the fact that the picture quality of such sets does not come close to the quality of a plasma/lcd of the same size. to get optimum performance you have to be sitting directly in front of the set. it can also cost upwards of $400 to replace the tubes which can last only 3000 hours.

Plasmas are a waste of money. A few months back I blew a couple grand on a Samsung 42" plasma. Images burn in the screen and sometimes when a picture changes I can still see a faint image of a previous image. LCD's don't have this problem. Plasmas are not worth the money. Go LCD!

Plasma is for idiots who want to look cool but everyone who knows TVs is laughing at them, get DLP its the best by far, get samsung or hitachi.
