A friend of mine gave me a Bible for christmas last year. I can't put it down. It's called a Life skills Study Bible. You can probably get it in different versions. She gave me the King James Version. I have been reading the Book of Proverbs and it is teaching me so much. I hope this helps.

Touch Point Bible - New Living Translation. Published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., Wheaton, Illinois. Hard to find, but well worth the search. It is the Protestant version, but all the books that it contain are the same as the Catholic Bible with the exception being the Catholic Bible has included additional writings or books. I am Catholic and I have used this Bible now for about five years. Often during the Homily I will reread the daily readings from this translation to help the people get a better understanding of the words.

The Bible I like is the New King James version. It's in a little more modern version. A good place to start reading is in the Gospel of John. One thing you have to realize, you can't read the Bible like a novel, otherwise you are going to get all confused. On the Internet, you should find a lot of good Bible study plans. I would try putting aside at least 15 minutes everyday for reading. If you need to ask any questions, just e-mail me. God Bless

If by "non standard format bible" you mean one that is not the King James version (with all its thee's and thou's), you might try either the New World Translation (available to read for free online at the site listed below) or the Living English Bible.

The NIV (New International Version) is a great plain english translation. If you want one paraphrased into even more understandable english, there is always the New Living Bible

If you drive much, try a bible on tape or CD. I've been able to get through the Bible in a month just listening and not skipping the begats and whatnot.

Try a New Living Translation or perhaps a New International Version.

Look up some scripture, online at http://www.blueletterbible.org/ and click, over on the right hand side, the various translations of the same verse.

That way you can see which one you can better relate to.

I'm sorry the Bible doesn't have pretty stickers and big pictures and crayons for you. Maybe you just should go on to something else.

It sounds nasty, but I mean it. People can and do go their whole lives without touching a Bible, and it doesn't hurt them.
