I second that! I live near a road that is very popular with cyclist and my boyfriend hates them with a passion. They ride in goups where cars cannot pass them and run stoplights all the time. Maybe spandex shorts gives you the right to run red lights, I don't know, but I was always under the impression that they had to follow the same traffic laws as cars.
For all you cyclists out there that ride like this, let me tell you that it is sooooo tempting to throw stuff at you or knock you over. I'm going to start carrying a sack of pennies with me and one of these days when one of you decides to make a left-hand turn in front of me without signaling, I will throw a handful of them at you. When you fall and tear your yellow and pink spandex shorts with the padded butt, I will laugh with glee.

Bicyclist ARE part of real traffic. They DO have a right to be on the road. They are part of the normal flow of traffic and and are entitled to share the road with other drivers. They are even entitled to use left turn lanes. The ones creating the dangerous conditions are motorists who don't know how to share the road. Do the world a favor, read a driver's handbook and educate yourself.

Well i dont ride a bicycle but as a truck driver Ive encountered many of them especially in bad high traffic areas. They feel like they have the right and should be respected as much as any other vehicle on the road. They usually are courteous however some are a little disrespectfull not letting people pass them by using the shoulder whenever possible.

Cyclists have as much right to the road as cars and motorcyles.
Since I don't trust any motorist when I'm on a bike, I try to avoid traffic whenever possible, using bike paths and bike lanes when available.
Sometimes it can't be avoided, though. I try to take up as little space as possible.
And as for anyone trying to run me into a ditch or throwing anything at me, you'd better hope that I don't catch up to you after you do so. I've got a bike lock that I can literally beat you to death with, or use to bust the hell out of your vehicle with. And believe me, I'll have no problem doing either to protect myself.

I like to ride in the street. I really like to ride in front of cars full of people that ask stupid questions and just ignore their honking. Usually the smart ones will just pass me like they do other cars. The others go home and put flags on their bikes and ride on the side walk at 10 mph in baggy pants and shirts 3 sizes too big flapping in the wind.

I avoid riding in the street as much as possible. With the number of bad drivers out there, I just don't feel safe having my back exposed to some potential idiot on a cell phone. I am not going to depend on the rules of the road to keep me safe.
Hmm. Pepper spray? I like that. I may have to get another automatic center punch for my bike tool kit.

I once had some punk kids throw a water bottle at me as they drove by. They thought that was really funny. Until I caught up with them at the next stop light and gave them a nice blast of pepper spray in the car ! Bet they'll never throw anything at anyone again !

You've already asked this question. Did you not like the answers you got before? Well, here are some of the ones from the previous one.
"They do have every right to be there, And the first time you dont yeild to them, U may go to jail."
"People who bicyle as a commuting method DO understand traffic. Drivers tend to be stuck up snots about owning the road. The last time I checked, drivers are the ones paying $3 + per gallon of gas. That's more embarrassing than trying to keep fit while getting to work."
"Well, the funny thing is that, according to the law, we DO HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE THERE, AND WE WILL KEEP ON DOING SO. Check your law books. This has been a legal right for bicyclists for decades. Time to wake up and get into the 21st Century. Hell, it was OUR LEGAL RIGHT back in the 20th century. Where have you been??!!! And the bad shoulders aren't a problem for us anymore than they are for you, so watch your driving! God Bless you."
"It is an incorrect assumption to assume what you are doing is more important than what another is doing. There are only 3 types of vehicles that are more important than any one of us, police, fire, and ambulance. Every one else is equal. All other thinking out side of this is purely self centered. So to Walk, Run, Ride a Horse, Buggy, Tractor, Bike, Car, Truck, Big rig, is all the same."
"What a stupid question and I never say that. Yes, I have a right to be there. I probably pay more in taxes than you earn. I have the same rights as a car. Ask that last idiot who buzzed me. Got a nice citation. Ask the one before that has an imprint of my cleat on his passenger door. Becareful about which cyclist you mess with. You never know."
"Well you cant ride 220km around a park when you have people walking and disobaying the path rules.
Dogs off leads running all over the place.
riding a bike is not for fasion but for fitness and train for prise money when winning a race.
untill the law is re written and the tour down under, tour de france, tour de swiss, tour of itally, and with petrol prices rising
it will grow day by day you cant have a tour de france in a park with people riding 3,000km in 3 weeks around a park.....Come see the
Tour de park in france no mountains no sponsorship just 90 riders in a park..... there would be no money in for the bikes.
riders these days pull in exsess of 1,000,000.00 not bad for riding a bike well looking like a clown! "
"Guess what, Junior? Those roads that you covet so highly were originally designed for BICYCLES, not cars. The bicycle was invented in 1867, while cars didn't appear until the late 1890's. Because of the jarring ride, New York city was the first to pave the streets so that bicyclists could ride in safety.
Since it seems that you have no purpose in life but to proudly display your ignorance, allow me to point out that in most states bicycles are to be considered the same as any other vehicle on the road. They have all the rights and responsibilities as cars, and if that means ruining YOUR precious day then you have bigger problems.
If you don't like cyclists riding on the road, why don't YOU call your local DOT and get a shoulder paved instead of being a whiny BlTCH about it? Besides, a cyclist has more control over their bike than you could ever hope to have in your Hummer.
Ask yourself something: do you HONESTLY think that anything you do or say will make any cyclist actually stop riding? Pretty full of yourself, aren't you?
Clowns, by the way, have funny hair like mullets, big floppy shoes like work boots, wife-beater shirts and NASCAR stickers on the back of their worthless SUVs."
"Ignore real traffic?!?!
I've never seen a cyclist gazing into space while riding. We have to pay attention to what's going on in the road because most people in their cars DO NOT. What appears to be creating a dangerous situation is really reacting to stupid actions by other people. Even on bike paths people do not pay attention. Apparently they ARE the only ones around and rules don't apply to them. If you are in a busy parks and there are people all around you it probably wouldn't hurt to be courteous of others and stay to one side of the path so others can pass you. Also, if you have children and you do not care enough about them to watch them why should I care enough about them to avoid them at the risk of wrecking $3000 worth of carbon fiber. As far as dressing like clowns...do you wear shorts when it snows. No, you dress accordingly. Then again asking a question like this there is probably not alot of common sense in your world so maybe you do wear shorts in the snow."
"Just drive your fat self right on around those of us who actually do something. Instead of cursing and spraying french fries into your celly, perhaps you could just try going out for a ride someday....you might enjoy it.
--FYI-- We don't enjoy riding on roads with rude people making life difficult and dangerous, most places just have few alternatives, we ride on mostly rural roads(no shoulder) due to the reduced traffic in those areas. Most of us take advantage of bikeways and paths when they are available."
