Well, what you should've done when you first brought her home was take her into a very quiet room, and speak to her quietly. I had a budgie, and my mom did just this for 1 month or so. Kept her in a quiet room, and talked to her quietly as much as possible. Try to get her used to you. My budgie goes on anybody's shoulder (even strangers). Unfortunately we had to give him away to some friends because my mom got pregnant (2 much info). ANYWAYS, your bird is just not comfortable and not used to being handled by humans. Try not to seem annoyed or don't do anything crazy to try to get her to quiet down. It still isn't too late to try and train her!! She may be scared, so keep her in a nice quiet room, and talk to her quietly. If she still doesn't quiet down after 1 month or so, then she may have a mental problem. Believe it or not. I am serious. Or your bird may be the "wild/hyper" types. You have to either take her to the vet, or talk to a bird specialist at a pet store. They may have things to calm her down.

Additional Info:

DO NOT CLIP YOUR BIRDS WINGS!!! Let your bird be free, that is what they are meant for. To fly. It's the same as de-clawing cats, they need they're claws like we need our fingers or nails. Just take my advice, because your bird will be much happier with her wings nice and full.

- I have a female to who used to scream like that.
- I just used to hold her everyday until she got used to me holding her.
- Its 1 and 1/2 years later and shes pretty good now, doesnt scream as much, every now and again she will scream and bite especially when i am handling her when she has eggs or her babies.
- She will stop eventually and she will be a lovely bird.

If this is a pre owned bird you will need to find out what it is she is wanting you to do. Maybe the old owner would first meeting in the morning or after work get the bird and take it and give it a sugar cane or something. Or maybe you move too fast. Maybe the old owner would hold the bird on his finger and talk to it for a few minutes.

Try something new.

I would take her to a small room where you can control her easily. Let her out of her cage, and then slowly offer your finger as a perch. She will fly away but has no where to go. Offer the finger again. In a few minutes she'll be sitting on your finger.

Then offer her a finger on the other hand. Get her used to going from one of your hands to the other. She will lose her fear of you and will enjoy the game. Before too long she'll be sitting on your shoulder, perching on your head, etc. etc.

It's important to do this in a room without distractions and especially without dangers to the bird, because her first reaction will be to panic.

when u hold her are you holding her with your hands around her? or is she free to move and fly? Most parakeets hate to be "held" they like to feel free and able to fly... if u want to prevent flight, have her wings clipped..... this way she can flap and try but she wont get too far.

Talk to her in an unhurried, gentle, calm way and she may respond. With my birds I kiss them on the beak whenever they get too excited and it calms them.

Keep trying to handle her. She is obviously scared and being handled is new to her. Give her some time. try to tempt her and distract her with treats.

Be patient and keep handling her daily. She'll eventually get used to you.
