I have a kid in my youth group that is struggling with need "Need for Speed" when he is driving. He says that he cannot stop the urge to do so. He knows that he could be endangering others and himself however the urge is too strong to stop. I think that he is at a point were this has become a habit or possibly obsessive compulsive. Does anyone have any hints on how to help this youth overcome the desire to speed? He does want to stop this but doesn't know how.

Well, I would say taking his car keys away would be a great start.

Actually the best thing for him is to be assigned to your local ER to watch each and every one of the accident victims get operated on, work with your local hospital. Once he sees the carnage and the broken bodies, of all as well as the suffering of the families, maybe he will think twice about speeding.

His saying that he knows he could be endangering others etc etc is just a bunch of malarkey...designed for adults like your self to throw you per say a carrot...don't believe a word of it.

Hit the brakes for him and tell him that he is putting your life in danger. Tell him to stop being an ***.

Take his car away. This is what we did to our son. Every time we or somebody else saw him doing something stupid if they would tell us we would take his car away. He's doing alot better now.
