This is something that has baffled me for the longest time. Winamp was around for five years before the far inferior iTunes came along - and yet, everyone uses it, and seems to love it.

Can anyone example to me why anyone would want to use iTunes instead of Winamp, given the choice?

Please note: Winamp has full support for iPods.

Winamp can also do approximately 15 things iTunes can't, and everything (well, 98% of its features) better than iTunes.

Why do people use iTunes over winamp?

* The music store
* Easy integration with their ipod (never mind that winamp can do this)
* Easy playing of their purchased music. Even though winamp can do this, many people assume that music purchased through a certain music store must be played with that store's software (Rhapsody would be another example).
* Trust in Apple.
* Dislike of AOL (the owner of Winamp)
* They prefer the OS X-style interface (especially on OS X)
* They dislike the Winamp interface
* Did I mention the music store?

And the number one reason? People know about iTunes because they know about iPods. Many people don't know about Winamp, and don't really care that they don't know (this is similar to why many people use IE instead of Firefox, or Windows instead of Linux).

Winamp is a proprietary media participant written by ability of Nullsoft, now a subsidiary of Time Warner. that's skinnable, multi-format freeware / shareware. Winamp became first released by ability of Justin Frankel in 1996. modern-day Winamp progression is credited to Ben Allison (benski), Will Fisher, Taber Buhl, Maksim Tyrtyshny, Chris Edwards and Stephen (Tag) Loomis. In 2005 Winamp grew from 33 million month-to-month clientele to over fifty seven million month-to-month clientele,[2] making it the 2nd[citation needed] maximum actively used media participant globally, 2nd purely to homestead windows Media participant.

You are preaching to the choir.
I had a portable MP3 player in 1998.
I used winamp 0.42
I converted my first MP3 album in christmas 1996.

People are stupid, and don't know any better.

Itunes was designed specifically for iPods
Ipods, while they are the last player to arrive to the "mp3 player" game, are the most popular of them all (even though their products are a direct ripoff of creativelabs products)
