Mormons scare a lot of people because they are a large rather visable block of voters. That they have 'power,' which is rather silly because lots of religious sects/cults/groups have political power. What bothers many is that The Book of Mormon literally came up out of 'nowhere,' suddenly in 1820's America here is 'Another Testement of Jesus.' This leads many to believe that Mormon belief is based on falacy. If the book had been marketed as The Teachings of Joseph Smith then maybe people would be less harsh. But what truly 'scares' people is the thought that a large mass of people are ready to do the bidding of a vague shadowy figure in Salt Lake City.
Oh, and nobody can figure out that whole caffeein thing - - - that weirds out coffee & tea drinkers. It does, it really does. Peace.

The term Mormon [1] was first used in modern times in the 1830s as a pejorative to describe those who believed that Joseph Smith, Jr. had been called as a prophet of God, and who accepted the Book of Mormon as scripture.

Stereotypes are believed so easily. I personaly don't know any mormons myself, so I truly could not comment. All I know is they worship Joseph Smith just as how the christians worship jesus. And all of thier ministers are believed to be prophets. But I am not too sure about that last statement. I have the book of mormons, but highly doubt I will read it. I only read the beggining of the book on how he was given a prophecy to find some buried relic dating back to christ found in america. But who knows? I have read the bible and quran, but will not read this. It is like reading some kind of folklore novel. It was kind of a turn off. I was at least able to read the bible and understand it on a literal sense. With no colorfull pictures. Kind of makes it an even bigger turn off to read. I am personally islamic and I really don't know anything about mormonism. That is of a diffferent truth. I would assume it is just another sect of christianity out of the many that exist. But christians don't even like them. But on the other hand, christians don't like catholics or any other sect that is not pure christianity. And they are of the same faith. But I really don't have any reason to hate mormons other than the theology "when in Rome, do as the Romans". Hate them because the next man does. Criticise because the next man does. But they personally have not done anything to me. But once again, I don;t know them nor thier truth. I just have opinions. SALAM!

Mormons believe:
God was once just a man!
Man will become equal to God!
God is considered the literal biological Father of Jesus in the same way that Mary is the literal biological mother of Jesus!
If a man didn't like his wife on earth, he controls her eternal destiny in the resurrection!

Anyone who believes they can take/adopt someone's name and perform a ceremony for that person and thereby accept or baptise or take into the mormon faith their ancestors WITH OUT PERMISSION has tpo be a little out in left field.

Also anyone who thinks that the practice of poligamy is a sane and rational act, arms themselves to the teeth as if preparing for a war can't be all there.

I most certainly don't hold anything against Mormon or any other religion for that matter. Who am I or who is anyone else to say what another "should" believe? We are all on our own spiritual path. May yours bring you peace and happiness.

I am not personally against Mormons. I can't believe though that there is another testament of Jesus Christ other than the one contained in the New Testament of the Bible but it is not my place to pass judgment on anyone else. It is my responsibility to judge myself and do my best to please God.

I'm not against mormons, just the teachings
(But the family values can't be beat!)

Scripture:
Most Christians accept only the Bible as authoritative scripture. Mormons believe the Bible is sacred. They add three other documents—-The Pearl of Great Price, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Book of Mormon—-to their canon.

Creeds:
For most Christians, church teachings stem from scripture. Leaders of the early church sought to specify the core of Christian belief in order to ensure the soundness of Christian teaching. At meetings in Nicea and Chalcedon in the fourth and fifth centuries, these leaders established the canon of scripture and proclaimed the basic elements of acceptable Christian doctrine.
Mormons do not affirm any of the creeds as stated, though they share some of the theological ideas in the creeds. They believe that after the death of the early apostles, the Christian church fell into apostasy. The church needed to be restored in the latter days, which Mormons believe were begun in 1820, when Mormon founder Joseph Smith was visited by God the father and Jesus Christ.

Nature of Godhead:
For most Christians, the Godhead is composed of three persons of one substance, power, and eternity—the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. These Three are One. This triune God is without "body, parts or passions."
The LDS Church also teaches that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost comprise the Godhead. But Mormons believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ have bodies of flesh and bones as tangible as human beings, while the Holy Ghost "is a personage of Spirit." Mormonism also teaches that God the Father was once a man. He is married to a "heavenly mother" and is the literal father of all mortal spirits.

Christ:
Most Christians believe that Jesus Christ was "truly God and truly man, in whom the divine and human natures are perfectly and inseparably united." He is the only begotten Son of the Father, born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mormons believe that Jesus is the Son of God in the most literal sense. He is eldest brother of all mortals and firstborn spirit child of God. He was Jehovah of the Old Testament but became Jesus Christ of the New Testament when he was born into mortality. They believe that from Mary, a mortal woman, he inherited the capacity to die, and from God, an exalted being, he inherited the capacity to live forever.

Salvation:
According to the historic, apostolic Christian faith, salvation comes only by the grace of Christ, who "suffered, was crucified, died and was buried, to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice, not only for original guilt, but also for actual sins of men."
Mormons also believe that salvation comes through Christ's atoning sacrifice. But they don’t believe in "original sin" or in human depravity. Still, Latter-day Saints believe that fallen men and women do need redemption. And while works are a necessary condition, they are insufficient for salvation.

Sorry you said just one good reason

I am against the Mormon religion...not Mormons. Their religion is false. You can't just tack Jesus name to a religion and therefore assume it is true. Study the facts and you will know.

Joseph Smith added more lies and confusion to an already lie filled and confused religion.
