As others have said, Lupus, as an autoimmune disease affects only its sufferer and is not contagious. Therefore, there should be no need to worry about getting sick by being with someone with this disease.

The one conceivable reason to stay away from a Lupus patient is not for your own protection but for theirs. Someone with Lupus has a compromised immune system and is at risk for infections. In addition, many treatments for Lupus involves medications such as steroids that further reduces the immune system. Therefore, if you are sick yourself with something contagious, you should stay away for the Lupus patient's sake.

Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease. The person's own immune system begins to attack the cells of the person's own body. It's absolutely not contagious. There's no reason to stay away from someone with Lupus.

Absolute not: Lupus is an autoimmune disease, meaning it's acquired in that individual by it's own immune system attacking organs. NOT CONTAGIOUS AT ALL
