Yep, as soon as the police is spotted, all you see are brake lights.

A great many people do not observe the speed limits and it is a dangerous indicator of the public perception of the need to respect laws. All laws were enacted to provide a safe environment for the public. Those who break those laws are "OUTLAWS". They seem to think their "right" to be somewhere in a given amount of time overrules the "right" of others to travel safely on the highways. They don't equate their ignoring the laws with exposing others to danger. That is until they plow into someone and cause injury or death. Just recently a van ran into a crowd of kids waiting for the school bus and put ten of them in the hospital. I bet the van was speeding but I haven't rechecked it yet today to find out. I'm sure the driver never imagined that would happen, but it did and either it was going too fast or the driver was inattentive.

PEOPLE, PEOPLE, wake up and realize those damned cars you love so much are deadly weapons.

Dat's all folks.......................

I live in California, and it sure doesn't seem like anyone is driving at the speed limit, at least on the freeways. Even driving in the third lane, usually doing 75-78mph, I regularly get tailgated. The only way I get most drivers to move to the two fastest lanes is to drop down to about 70, then they change lanes.

I've experienced many CHP's come up on me when I was driving 75 mph plus. I read somewhere that, unless you are weaving in and out of traffic and otherwise driving erratically, in alot of cases a CHP won't give you a citation, especially if they have somewhere they need to be.

I regularly see California freeway drivers drive 85-90 mph. Especially in an expensive car, it's easy to be driving at those speeds and not even realize it. I've never owned an expensive car though, so I don't have a clue as to how that feels. LOL!

Engineers determine what a safe speed for the prevailing conditions in addition to set limits based on the road size and location, i.e. two lane, two lane w/turn lane; neighborhood, secondary road, etc. White signs aren't suggestions, they're the law. Paying attention to them won't be an option if police catch you speeding. Yellow speed signs are recommended speeds. They're posted for safety.

a little girl was trying to cross the road in a school zone...

the driver the hit her was doing 35 MPH...
if the little girl was hit below 20MPH...she would still have a 65% survival rate...
instead...she had 0% chance to live..
and that my friend...it's why speed limit signs are posted...

cops can't give you a speeding ticket if the limit is not posted.

You are not supposed to read them - safe drivers keep their eyes on the road. They are there to catch you to pay fines for unsafe driving i.e. if you are caught reading them.
