Between televangelists (TV preachers) begging for money, and passing the collection plate at church?

The same people who willingly tithe look down upon Televangelists. Why?

begging is so not becoming.

Seriously, televangelists give real churches and pastors bad names.

Giving to your home church is to help YOUR church and YOUR community.

I wouldn't give to any televangelists unless I knew exactly how the funds would be used for. (ie disaster relief)

It depends, actually some televangelists are looking to get rich, they are taking in the elderly people and robbing them of their money.
Althought there are a FEW televangelists (maybe) that are really in it for the glory of God, but most are in it for the lining of their pockets.

The Church on the other hand, using the tithing for the upkeep of the Church, paying the church official, and helping in the community.

Televangelists are asking for offerings to the church which would go to charity, mission work, etc.

Passing the collection plate is gathering tithe which is 10% of your income which God says should go to Him.

the collection plate is for tithes.. those tithes go to further the gospel and to help the poor. taking a collection is a commandment for the new testament church to take up and distribute out through the community.

Televangelists beg for money to further their pursuit of a new car and swimming pool. and is not a church.

the televangelists need more money for air time, and are mostly hypocrites where as most small churches offer a learning experience and need the money for repairs and events that actually have to do with the church and is people.

We are called to support our local church, whereas we are not called to necessarily support para-church organizations. If a person isn't supporting their local church, and yet supports a para-church organization, they are being disobedient.

"You know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple and that those who serve at the altar get their share of its offerings, don't you? In the same way, the Lord has ordered that those who proclaim the gospel should make their living from the gospel." (I Corinthians 9:13-14)

The most important aspect of all this is here in II Corinthians 9:7: "Each of you must give what you have decided in your heart, not with regret or under compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver."
