I recently asked for info about my 3month old Coltriever, only to have backyard breeders and pet shop employees insult my dog and I. I found all the info for my self THANKYOU!!!!! A Coltriever is a REGISTERIED BREED at The Kennel Club. The Kennel Club U.K. not only allows a mixed breed, almost all dog breeds are a mix in the begining of a breed. This breed is fairly new, very new in the U.S.A. There is also a WEB site dedicated to the breed. WWW.Coltriever.org it is a very good and professional site. In New Zealand the Coltriever is the breed chosen to be guide dogs. A Coltriever was on the search team ay the World Trade Center tradgety. And many work on Search and Rescue teams around the world. Once again I would like to thank all those "EXPERTS" for thier answers, oops, I mean smartass comments. Enjoy all of your Mutts and Mongruls, I mean "purebreds". I guess "purebred" dogs just magicly appear? Ya right!!!

I didn't answer/see your initial question, but I don't claim to be an expert on dogs or any other subject. Due to my experience, I have some knowledge and I try to answer questions as honestly as I can. If I don't know, I either don't answer or I do some research.
There are a lot of people here on Yahoo Answers who are not what or who they claim to be or they would not answer so foolishly. There is also a lot of erroneous information being shared here. Just yesterday, I saw a reply to a question that I know is going to be harmful to a parrot, possible result in the birds death, but the asker chose the deadly answer as the "best" answer and said "thank you for your helpful answer"! I'd rather say nothing than to cause harm.
You are correct though....all pure breds do originate from mixed parentage. That is the idea...to breed dogs to get the best and desired characteristics.
I had never heard of a Coltriever either. Thanks for the information. You are never too old to learn and I intend to read the website. I would appreciate a link that explains the registration and the Coltriever's standard.

I took the time to look at the original question, and to read all the answers. Your original question was entirely appropriate, and while there were a few rude replies, I thought that most of the answers maintained a reasonable tone.
You asked about a breed that is not yet recognized by the AKC, and that's what set them off. For some people, the AKC is THE authority and all other dogs are mutts. They seem to forget that the AKC recognizes "new" breeds all the time.
The reason this is such a touchy subject, is the current public infatuation with designer dogs. There are unscrupulous breeders in the market that are charging some people thousands of dollars for first generation mixes, dogs that will not breed true to their supposed type. Many of these dogs are the product of over bred parents, come out of horrible conditions, and develop serious health problems. It's the vets, vet techs and in some cases groomers that have to deal with the aftermath, and it makes them angry.
I am sorry that your original question was misunderstood, and some people lumped you in to that category.

I have an American Bulldog, which isn't recognized by the American Kennel Club. However, after doing some research, it appears that American Bulldogs are the original bulldogs and the primary reason they're not recognized is because the AKC formed in the north after the Civil War and American Bulldogs were mainly southern dogs. English bulldogs are historically a cross between a pug and a an American Bulldog....so, yes, so much for purebred!!

Hey people are stupid. It can't be helped. I didn't see your original question, and am by far not an expert. I am sure you dog is great and am sorry that people were talking trash. I normally make sure to tell people whan I am asking a question that if they are going to be stupid to not even bothering answering the question. Maybe this will help y ou in the future. I've never heard of a Coltriever, but after reading you "question" I am going to google them right now. Have a good day dear.
Edit: They are so cute!!!!!!!! If I didn't already have two dogs, I would probably get one!! Do they come in short hair??

I am sorry you had a bad experience! This site is no different than any other part of the universe in that everyone likes to give their opinion. You should check-out any answer you get here to be sure it is correct as some do not realize that many ask serious questions and only want serious and correct answers.
Glad you have your issue resolved and I learned something from your question I did not know. Thanks!

Its not just dog misinformation that gets posted to this site - the number of people posting false medical information is horrific - especially when the post includes "I am a RN" and is some old wives tale and not real medical information at all.
Oh well, it is what it is.
