Yes, I think they are being way to leinent. All they are doing is basically legalizing slavory again. I mean there is not a job in this country that an American won't do, but with allowing illlegal immigrants to take the jobs at substandard wages, it forces all poor Americans to lower their standards as to what they will accept as pay. Therefore making an even bigger gap between the rich and the poor, in otherwords, economic slavery, if you weren't born with money, you'll never get out of poverty now, that's what Bush wants to do, he wants to create 2 classes, the rich and the servants.

Way too lenient. Need to enforce the laws that are on the books before making more that they are not going to enforce. When they get the illegals stop letting them go and wondering why they don't come back for the court date. Put them in jail and then either keep them there or deport them with an electronic device that will let you know if they try to cross again. If they do throw them in jail with no chance of getting out for a very long time and then put them on a chain gang.

I'd say it's partially about corporate interests e.g banks, and low-level service business (big and small).
Then the other huge factor is the dems, whom prodominately support poor uneducated left-leaning individuals....through political means. 65' immigration legislation (e.g Chain Immigration) altered the political perspective of the dems, in that they made it a goal from there-on, to get as many cheap votes as possible. Instead of influencing the public by reason, they imported/immigrated poor uneducated individuals from left-leaning countries...to expand and extend their political idealogy.
Now people will say it's all corporate, but they're fairly one-sided when it comes to the vote. Dems support this sort of policy almost uniformly and a handful of 'republicans' do as well. The clarification is whom mostly does the supporting of mass immigration via legal or illegal.
Two main interests: Cheap labor and Cheap votes.

Which immigration policies are you referring to??? The USA was a new world based on immigrants and immigration not too long ago. Are you asking about Anglos, Spaniards, Asians, Africans, etc ? The only people who should be worried about immigration laws are the Native Americans.

Too lenient? Just because they pulled down and trampled the US Flag in Maywood, CA before they raised the mexican flag?
Just because they think they're a Master Race - La Raza?
Just because millions of them migrate north in great herds, as is their 'right' to leech off America?
Yeah, I'd guess we're a mite lenient.

I am Canadian, and there should be freedom of movement between Canada and the U.S. like there is between Australia and New Zealand. Also, I don't know if the U.S. is still persuing the Manifest Destiny, but in my opinion, Canada would only join the U.S. when the U.S. has Canadians living and working in the U.S. in greater numbers. That is what has held Corsica to France and Porto Rico to the U.S.
I also believe there should be freedom of movement between the U.S. and Mexico, since the U.S. stole 1/2 of Mexico, can't stop the illegals anyways, and since free trade ideally includes people as well as goods. The earlier talk about taking jobs away from Americans is a myth. It ignores the fact that new jobs are created as the illegals arrive. If I am wrong, then how come the U.S.'s high natural population growth was not a problem?

please... i don't think you can discuss immigration this way. i think that's the whole problem.
here's what i would like to know:
we are next to mexico, and that country has a freakily stratified class system and tax structure which is what produces all the poor that seek to enter our country. coupled with that, mexico has an extremely low percentage of spots to use in our visa programs. given its proximity to us, i think that we must seek to address the underlying causes that are producing massive amounts of people seeking to cross our borders and take advantage of our free culture and social services, and then finding employment when there is supposedly none legally available to them. i'm not sure that this can be distilled into "immigration is too lenient". immigration to me is completely broken and we aren't yet discussing meaningful ways to fix it... we're still kicking its tires and cursing.
