Just eating is painful for her. Any suggestions as to what kind of food we could try. she is 20 months and a very good eater. It tears me up when she wants to eat something she normally does but can't because of the sores in her mouth. I am a mom of 2 but this is a first for me. She is just getting over a upper respiratory infection and a very high fever.

She is on antibiotics and she was taken to the E.R. on Wed night with a very high fever of 103.9. She is doing much better and tomorrow is the last day for her medicine. It is just the cold sores in her mouth. She has about 5. The doc said it might take while for them to go away, at least a week or two. She was a sick little princess and is improving day by day. Just some advice on food would be nice. Thanks!!

My daughter just got over the same thing. The sores lasted about 2 wks. Don't be to concerned about her eating, just make sure she is getting plenty of liquids. She will eat when it is comfortable for her. Hope she gets better soon!

Obviously, avoid spicy or acidic foods and stick with what you would if you had just gotten over the stomach flu. Salty actually wouldn't be such a bad idea as long as it's diluted--it will help dry those suckers up faster. (Like chicken noodle soup or low sodium pretzels) Try rices, not too hot, oatmeals, a good choice would be to giver her the canned baby food again for awhile so she gets her nutrition. Thankfully, those nasty fever blisters heal pretty quickly--she will probably get them all er life though. The doctor could prescribe a medication to alleviate the pain and to decrease the longevity of the sores--not sure why he didn't already. BY THE WAY, APPLESAUCE IS A VERY BAD IDEA, VERY ACIDIC, AND WILL DELAY THE HEALING PROCESS EVEN IF IT DOESN'T HURT HER, WHICH IT MIGHT, INITIALLY

OMG! I am not a parent but I had the exact same thing it was because of both the foods I was eating and my mouth! It was because my dentist had not noticed that my two back teeth were pushing my other teeth causing food to get inside my gums leaving me with a huge bruise on my gums. I was told that I could only eat colder foods. Ice Cream for example. I had ate a lot of Bread! Soft food but never Soup we tried that and it made it sooooooo much worse!

You might want to double check that it is not hand, foot, and mouth disease. I work at a day care and last week there were 8 infants to 2 year olds that went home, it causes spotting in the mouth and little red dots on the hands and feet, it is highly contagious to little ones, over the age of ten cannot contact this, but it also causes temp. fluctuations, and loss of appetite.

Anything bland-rice, applesauce, toast. Try freezing a little applesauce like a popsicle. If it continues to be a problem, call the doctor, as you don't want her losing weight or having her eating habits affected for long.

Try to avoid salty foods or foods with acid. Salt would most likely irritate the sores and acid would as well. Try really plain foods such as plain pasta (no sauce), rice, bread, milk, etc. Good luck and I hope she feels better :(
