I am not an expert on the Congregationals. There are huge differences between Catholics and Protestants though. The more liturgical and more sacramental the Protestant group is, the closer it is to the Catholic Faith. Because of this there are important differences in the understanding of salvation, justification, the Christian life and other such topics.

http://www.creeds.net is a great site for the main beliefs, in their own words, of Catholics and other groups.

Additional the Compendium of the Catholic Church (Google sear it) will give a very easy and quick primer on the basic Catholic Faith.

the book
THE SPIRIT AND FORMS OF PROTESTANTISM by Louis Bouyer is an excellent work.

two main differences are the Catholic church's belief that the Eucarist is actually the body of Christ (others see it as representative) and the belief of the Catholic church that sins must be confessed and penance done routinely to be forgiven of sin.
