Basically your pearls is the Word of God . The swine is anyone who actively and with great hostility rejects, ridicules and otherwise spitefully treats you and your attempt to explain the plan of salvation.

The basic principle here is this, if in the process of trying to share the Love and Word of God with someone, they become so hostile and unaccepting then there is no need to spend any more of your time and energy on that person, because they have hardened their heart and are not going to accept what you say.
No matter how hard you try or how you try to say it.

The actual quote is a little longer.

Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls to the swine. Otherwise, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn, and devour you."

Your "holy things" and your "pearls" are the same: whatever you consider holy, precious, and valuable, especially in the spiritual sense. The dogs and the swine are likewise also illustrations. They represent people that YOU KNOW will treat holy things with disrespect and abuse, because they are already, obviously, disrespectful and abusive people. They will abuse whatever it is you hold dear, and when they have finished, turn on you PERSONALLY.

Imagine you are with the one you love, dressed up for a classy night on the town. Would you drive your sports car down to the local gangster bar, and tell your sweetheart to go in and come out with a few beers? I highly doubt it!

What Jesus was talking about in this case, was presenting the Gospel to people who are activly hostile and hatefull to Gods words. He knew that if you say something people don't want to hear, and arn't ready for it, they WILL turn on you and attack. They are the swine. The Pearls is what you Value spiritually.

Example-all those christians who got stoned in the bible like Stephen? They said what the people didn't want to hear, so they died from it for telling the truth.

Go read the book of Acts for more detailed accounts

Swine are a filthy animal and pearls are precious stones. What Jesus meant by this statement was don't pass along true wisdom [only acquired from GOD] to people who either don't care or don't want to hear the truth. this can be either Christians or non Christians.

Or another way it could be the pearls are tolerance the swine are the intolerant.

It just shows that there is another way in which you can interperate the passage. What you make of it, or what you think it say's is different from another person.

I believe the pearls are the Gospel. The swine are those who are strongly against accepting Christ. If you have tried to spread the Word of God and someone absolutely refuses to believe it, you are supposed to move on to someone else. Don't waste your time if someone denies Christ and won't accept Him. Don't give up too easily on people, but you also have to be able to discern when you are not getting anywhere in your ministry.

Matt. 7:[6] Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Give not — to dogs - lest turning they rend you: Cast not - to swine - lest they trample them under foot. Yet even then, when the beam is cast out of thine own eye, Give not - That is, talk not of the deep things of God to those whom you know to be wallowing in sin. neither declare the great things God hath done for your soul to the profane, furious, persecuting wretches. Talk not of perfection, for instance, to the former; not of your experience to the latter. But our Lord does in nowise forbid us to reprove, as occasion is, both the one and the other.

This verse goes on to say, don't give the things of God to those who cannot understand them. "Pearls" are just that, the things of God. "Swine" are people who don't have any inclination or desire to understand anything about God or His word.

don't give the gospel (your pearls) to the swine (people that refused God to the point that he turned them over to a reprobate mind).

dunno- but i know that swine are pigs and pearls can be something precious to you, so maybe dont throw precious things to the filth that is swine? dont throw your precious things away once you have them? Maybe something to the effect of "realize that what you have is precious and dont take it for granted"
