You need to use a shampoo formulated for dogs - human shampoo is much too harsh for their skin and coats. If you buy dog shampoo, it can be diluted up to 1/2 with water.

It depends on what the normal shampoo is. If it's Pears shampoo, or any pure baby shampoo, or a simple one like Suave Clarifying, sure. The fancier stuff with botanical essences or special chemicals intended to encourage curls or straightness or thickness, etc, will probably cause allergic troubles on a dog. Dogs often have slightly dry skin, so any shampoo intended to help oily hair is also bad for a dog.

Your best bet is to use baby shampoo, the bonus here is that they smell gorgeous after their bath.
My dogs both have allergies to grass which causes massive skin irritations. The vet told me to use a medicated oatmeal shampoo, doesn't work and stinks to the High-Heavens! So they suggested wool wash! Works a charm just make sure you rinse extra well! Use eucalyptus wool wash if they have flees or lavender wool wash if you want them to smell pretty. Rinse them heaps and try not to get it in their eyes. Then as a bit of a conditioner to make them heaps soft use the baby shampoo-no tears type, so you can wash their head too. Always rinse them off heaps.

Human shampoo is too drying for use on a dog. Use only shampoo formulated for dogs. Many human shampoos also contain chemicals that are very irritating to a dog's skin. Many dogs break out in rashes, itching, or dandruff if human shampoo is used on them. It should only be used in an emergency.

Absolutely! Dog shampoos are gentle and they don't have a strong smell-so that they won't irritate the dogs skin. Which means that you can you can use anything like that on your dog. I usually use baby shampoos on my cocker, sometimes my shampoo also! I noticed that Pantene makes his fur soooo soft...
