I am pregnant and I wanted to know some questions about midwives?
#1- do they replace doctors- they deliver the baby right? The doc is only there for an emergency right?
#2 How much does a midwife usually cost?
#3 Would you rather have a doctor or midwife- or do you have both?

Question #1 you are right - doc only comes in for an emergency. Midwives will cost 1/3 of a doctors bill and are much more concerned with you, your baby, your partner, etc. I had a midwife.

1) yes and no. I was a home delivery gone wrong so I was taken to the hospital for my mom's delivery. So they're there for emergencies but there are midwifes that work with doctors. for example, they come to your home, but when it comes time for delivery, the hospital lets the midwife use the facilities. Rare, but it works well.
2) Midwives charge differently because of experience and location. many insurance companies and even people on government assistance can cover the bills.
3) I have 7 younger siblings. including me, 3 of us were delivered by doctors, but my mom preferred the home environment, and we had a great midwife. It's your choice, but when/if i ever have kids, i'm going for a midwife!
Congrats on your baby, and good luck! (hope this helps)

1)yes - there was no doc at all for mine.
2) don't know - insured
3) midwife all the way. docs mess everything up. create medical problems, so they'll have a role.
