any body have any tips on getting a tattoo?

Make sure the tattoo artist has true artistic talent and follows health codes striclty. Watch them give someone else a tattoo. Do they take out a new needle. Do they use ink in small pots and throw it away afterward? Do they give tips on care. Tal;k with otehr people who have gotten tattoos from them, do they have return customers?

1. Pick a sanitary, reputable artist There are a few out there who're not worthy of the craft. 2. Select a tat that you believe you can live with for the rest of your life. 3. NEVER put a tat on your body where it cannot be covered (hands, fingers, neck, face etc). You will regret it if you do. 4. Have fun with it and follow the instructions for healing from the artist.

Make sure that you go to a reputable shop. Make sure that they have single use needles and ink cups, also make sure that they use an autoclave to sterilize all their equipment. Look at the artists portfolio and be sure that what you get done is what you really want, Tattoos are not a spur of the moment thing they require long and hard thought.

think about where you want to get it on your body. then decide what shop you want to go to. check with the local licensing board to make sure they're in good standing and there are no complaints filed against them.
don't rush into it - it's permanent.


try a temporary tattoo on the place where you are considering getting it done - that way if you don't like it, you can rub it off with alcohol.

wow i'm way surprised about the answers posted here so far, don't get a tattoo on a whime, but if you have carefully choosen a design that you are passionate about, by all means get it

then try to find a tatto artist by word on mouth, not the phone book or walking by it, see as many completed jobs by one person as possible, even if that means visiting the studio several times before getting your work done

I have one. They really hurt. Most reputable places (as far as tattoo parlors go) won't give you one if you have been drinking, because it makes you bleed more. Looking back, I say - don't. If you insist, be prepared that it'll hurt like the dickens! Pick something small and put it in a place where you control who sees it and when as opposed to a place where it will affect your ability to get a job (i.e. forearm, hand, neck, face, etc.). Don't put someone's name in it, and don't pick something obscene. Go with something you REALLY, REALLY want to live with the rest of your life.

Just don't, why would you? You'll probably get the same crap everybody else has and regret it in 10-20 years depending on how long it takes you to develop common sense. I recommend a tattoo on your head, you gotta shave it all off and draw Mickey Mouse and have the text..."M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E I-S M-Y S-A-V-I-O-U-R"

I personally will never get one but if you decide to do so think about what it will look like when you are a grandparent. I know so many people who have said they wish they never would have gotten one.
