I would say YES they are embarrassed at being spanked in public. And I would say NO that embarrassing you child is a good thing.
Your children deserve respect just as you do. If you want your children to respect you, then you need to learn to respect them.
Also know that in most states if you are spanking your children in public that will get you reported to the child protective agency.
There are other ways of disciplining your children without using corporal punishment.
I just got a note from my 6 yr old's school asking me to sign a permission slip for them to use corporal punishment at school. I told them that they had better NOT use corporal punishment on my 6 yr old.
How would you like for someone to come up and hit you for something that you did that they did not like?
Same thing with your kids. Hitting your kids for any reason is unacceptable behavior and only in sites them to grow up and be physically abusive to others.

Well as a kid I was very embarrassed when I was spanked in public, whether by a parent or by an elementary school teacher that used to spank us in front of the class (private school). I thought the embarrassment made it even more of a punishment. It was no big deal in retrospect, but the time it was.
More parents should spank in public, and as less it's obviously out of control, others should just mind their own business.

okay first off i had a really bad childhood and embarrassing your child in public doesnt help them at all!!! 15 years down the road i remember the embarrassment i went through as a child. i have 2 children and if i caught anyone ever embarrassing them, touching them or keeping them from learning to the full extent....... if spanking doesnt resolve the behavior quit!!! dont keep doing or trying different methods of pain teaching. there is nothing wrong with your kids its you for thinking spanking helps. obviously not if your wondering about the public seeing you abuse your child. you are neglecting you childs emotions and jesus every child has temper tantrums. what you need to do is help your child express themselves without making mistakes that you think should have a spanking as a discipline.

I don't agree with spanking... but let's face it, sometimes it's the only thing a child will understand. As for spanking in public, I think it makes you look like a poor parent. Keep your discipline of your child private. If they're known for acting up in public, be sure to have a game plan before you even leave the house and make your youngster aware of it. Your plan can be as simple as just leaving immediately... grocery cart and all. Then explain that next time you'll be shopping alone. Then give the child a chance after that again... hopefully he or she will get the message. You also ask is embarrassing your kid a good thing... I really don't think so, and I think they will especially resent you for it if you do it in front of their friends.

Yes children ARE embarrassed by being spanked in public...I don't agree with spanking myself but it depends..I'm a bit two sided with this subject...I think it depends on the child in question, some kids 'need' a slight leg smack, it's the only way to control them, the only way they'll listen..A quick leg smack in a public place works wonders at keeping them in line..but to over use it is a bad thing.

I have been very lucky my children have only embarrassed me one time in public. I said NO and they said they would call HRS I gave them the number and said call. Yes children are embarased when spanked in public. Maybe if we acted like parents and controlled our children one would not be embarrassed. it only took one time to spank them in public and it was something they said rather than what they did and a light smack on the bottom doesnt hurt. I will not let my children speak to me and throw tantrums because they want their own way. Im their mother he is their father and together we are the PARENTS. If more children were allowed to be children instead of miniature adults maybe we wouldnt have a population of gun toting gang member school children. oh and.... when you spank them with one hand love them with the other it does work. if you dont like my method of parenting... oh well!

I think in many, if not most places, you could be reported for this. I don't know if children are embarrassed if spanked in public; if they are embarrassment is not how to teach them anything.

Sure children get embarassed when they are disaplined in public, whether it be by spanking or yelling. Just for the record I believe that spanking is wrong. It is never necessary to hit a child, there are so many other better ways to disapline your child. Every child has something that they value, like watching t.v. or a bike, or time playing basketball, having one of these things taken away until the bad behavior subsides really works. It is never ok to embarass your child, but if making your child return something that didn't belong to them, or making them apologize for bad behavior embarasses them, then so be it. Our children don't always have to like us, but it our responsibility as parents to teach them right from wrong because we love them.

I do not think your children should be spanked in public unless they have done something so grievous that immediate action is warranted. Discipline should take place in the home or somewhere else private. The whole world doesnt need to know your families business.

I think it's more embarrassing for the parents. It shows they have no control over their children, and have to other way to disipline them apart from physically. If that's the display in public, imagine what the children would get in private
