Between Afghanistan and Lebanon, the “war on terror” has been used as the justification for military intervention, violence and repression around the world--from the intense pressure on Iran to fall in line with Western governments’ dictates; to Israel’s iron-fisted war on the Palestinians; to U.S. saber-rattling against Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez; to Russia’s scorched-earth campaign against Chechen rebels; to all manner of government efforts, in the U.S., Europe and beyond, to shred civil liberties and clamp down on dissent.

Its not a 'War on Terror' as much as a 'War of Terror' really.

Today, Medgar Evers was buried from the bullet he caught.
They lowered him down as a king.
But when the shadowy sun sets on the one
That fired the gun
He'll see by his grave
On the stone that remains
Carved next to his name
His epitaph plain:
Only a pawn in their game.

"When is the US military going to bring freedom to Iraq?" Never. This is an illegal war and was entered into with no thought whatsoever about an exit strategy. It could go on for decades. Shame on Bush and Blair for making the world a much more dangerous place.

First off Iraq is free, they have been able to vote and yes they have been fighting with each other since they got rid of Saddam but one side was suppressed because of their religion. Does that sound like freedom? The biggest reason why they are fighting is because of Iran who is fighting against the sunnis. If Iran would stay out of it, there would be freedom and a democratic society that they all really do want. But the radical shities don't want democracy they want a militant religious leader, nobody else wants that. Hugo Chavez is a joke if he wasn't stealing money from the Venezuelan people he'd be on his inner tube comming over here. Its not a war of terror that we are waging its a war to stop terror. If we leave from there they will move their way west because it will make us look weak and an easy target. We must succeed, not for just us but for our kids our fallen soliders and our forefathers.

War won't ever solve anything. But we are trying to bring some stability to Iraq so they can hopefuly organize a system that they all can agree upon and use, but things take time. How many years from the time the first colony was established in America until the Revolutionary War? How many years did World War II go on in Europe and Asia before America got into the mix. This war in the Middle East has been going on long before we entered it?: many centuries. Every war can be called a "War on Terror" just as every war can be called "War of Terror" because there is always going to be tragedies and people (like you) who don't support anything behind it.

Supposedly the younger generation are revolting against the extremist. This is why we are having the issues with civil war starting to break out in Iraq. The women of Iraq can make a big difference. Theres actually a few groups of women that are starting to stand up against their men and such.

Its going to take time. I dont mean 2-3 years time. I'd say give it a decade at the least!

all the U.S. has given is dying and destruction and left the country in a state of revolution. earlier the 1st gulf conflict Iraq's infrastructure became first cost, however the U.S. and that's subservient poodles concentrated the water works etc. and ruined the country. Sadam would possibly no longer have been suitable yet he spent the international places earnings on the infrastructure of the country and the individuals, no longer purely like the despots in Saudi Arabia who spend all their wealth on racehorses and palaces.

You hit it right on the sweet spot, and blame! Bye Bye Baby! This is what we need more of a singing of the song of real freedom, with in the boundary's of respect and love, with courage and risk faced one on one, not 20 thousand feet in the air or 200 miles away, but eye to eye to deal and talk, bargain, learn and be open to the possibility of peace, and the good sense to walk the diplomatic way a shared and dared way to peace.
Our Country could fight for peace from a position of strength. We could refuse to say yes to anything but peace. We could realize that the peace maker is always welcome by all except the trampled few who feel alone, broken and threatened.

Military force alone rarely brings peace. if it does its only for short periods and largely because the military forces can use force to enforce thier policies. Peace will come when all sides realize that killing each other indiscrimately by the bushel is not going to get them anywhere. peace is often a willingness to compromise and a respect for written law.

You are right!
Put Sadaam back in and let the UN deal with it.
Lebanon is just a nice country who allows their little terrorists to run the country, supplied by Syria and Iran. Those are nice countries who would like nothing better than to help the world into a nice place of tranquillity and peace.
Hitler was a nice guy to his friends.
Go to Iran and dissent. I will hear from you later, or not

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
